Your Cheatin' Heart (1964) *** (out of 4) George Hamilton gets the role of a lifetime playing country music legend Hank Williams. This bio pic follows Williams as a poor boy all the way to his death at the age of 29. I was a tad bit nervous going into this picture but it turned out to be a pleasant surprise with Hamilton giving a terrific performance as Williams.

Hank Williams Jr. Audrey Mae Sheppard Williams (February 28, 1923 – November 4, 1975) was an American musician known for being the first wife of country music singer and songwriter Hank Williams, the mother of Hank Williams Jr. and the grandmother of Hank Williams III and Holly Williams .
Sheppard was born in Banks, Alabama, the daughter of Artie Mae (née Harden; 1903–1976) and Charles "Shelton" Sheppard. She grew up on a farm owned and worked by her parents. Sheppard's first husband was James Erskine Guy, whom she married when she was a high-school senior. The couple separated soon after their daughter Lycrecia was born in 1941.
A few months later, he passed away from a heart attack on January 1, 1953. After his death, a daughter, Jett, from one of his extramarital affairs, was born. Despite his misgivings, Audrey's daughter Lycrecia said that her mother blamed herself for Hank's downfall.

Little did he know that the woman he would fall in love with would be the key to his success. Born in Banks, Alabama, in 1923, Audrey Mae Sheppard met her future husband, Hank, in high school. However, she was to marry someone else before the pair got together.
She spoke to record executive of Acuff-Rose, Fred Rose, convincing him to give Hank a listen. Rose was fully on board with the singer, granting Hank a six-song contract, which led to a deal with MGM records. Hank gained traction with the public and began to make a name for himself.
Audrey tied the knot with a man named James Erskin Guy, and the two welcomed a daughter, Lycrecia, in 1941. They split up soon after, and Audrey and Hank began a relationship. Hank was just getting into his career at the time.

At times, bandmates refused to play with him and he was fired from his radio show for habitual drunkenness.

Parker introduced Hamilton to Hank Williams' ex-wife Audrey. The two got along well and Audrey lobbied on Hamilton 's behalf. Hamilton said, "Audrey wanted the movie to happen, especially to make her son, Hank Williams Jr., a singing star the same way she had pushed Big Hank to stardom.".
MGM's music division owned the rights to the Hank Williams songbook. In 1956, it was announced the studio would make the movie with producer Joe Pasternak, employing Jeff Richards and June Allyson in the lead roles. Then Elvis Presley was considered as a possible star, to make his follow-up movie for MGM following Jailhouse Rock. However, Colonel Tom Parker refused.
Filming started in April 1964. Hamilton says Sam Katzman ran a tight ship. "Jungle Sam cracked the whip, whacked the cane and the whole film was in the can right on time. But he gave me free rein creatively and our director... brought in something memorable, and even Sam knew it.".
Your Cheatin' Heart was released on DVD November 9, 2010, by Warner Archive as a MOD (Manufacture On Demand) disc via Amazon (Black and White version). The colorized version has never been released on any form of home media, but DVD-Rs of it frequently show up on websites specializing in bootlegs of rare movies.

The exhibition, “Family Tradition: The Williams Family Legacy,” depicts the lives of three generations, from Hank and his wife, Audrey, to Hank Jr.’s five children, and features items like the 1944 Martin D-28 guitar on which Williams wrote many of his hits.
The singer Jett Williams, Hank Sr.’s daughter from his brief affair with Bobbie Jett, is also a subject of the exhibition. Originally preserved on 16-inch acetate discs, the 143 transcriptions included in “The Unreleased Recordings” the first 54 of which were released last week nearly double Hank Williams’s recorded output.

Carolyn Tate, the curator, with Michael McCall, of the Family Tradition exhibition, stresses the importance of putting Audrey’s accomplishments in historical context. “She was a single mom in the mid-’50s,” Ms. Tate said. “She was left to run a business and raise children and to deal with a lot of legal issues.”.
