You don't want the trick!" Larry Harvey (full given name: Lawrence) is a previous owner of the Murder House. He is a character in the first season (dubbed by fans " Murder House ") portrayed by Denis O'Hare.
Jessica LangeAs Constance's lawyer warns her, they want her for something, and if they can pin Travis on her, so much the better. Any excuse to get into Constance's past is a good one, since that woman is a mess, and Jessica Lange is an incredible actress.
Finn WittrockHe is a character in Double Feature portrayed by Finn Wittrock.
17-year-oldTate Langdon is a 17-year-old psychiatric patient harboring dark secrets. He is a character in the first season (dubbed by fans "Murder House") primarily portrayed by Evan Peters.
Violet knows that Tate is a ghost. She goes to Westfield High, Tate's old school, where she later learns he committed a mass shooting in the mid-90's.
Instead, the desperate husband and father found success after taking a special black pill that allowed him to reach the full potential of his talents. Unfortunately, it also made him reliant on the blood of the living, essentially turning Harry into a vampire.
Harry — killed by Alma. Rory — killed by Alma for telling it to her like it is! Rory was gifted, Alma, and without the pills. Many casualties — Ursula tricks many young, inspiring writers to take the pill, knowing they won't have any talent.
Tate chose to get it on with Vivien apparently to appease Nora, who doesn't seem to realize she's dead and desperately wants her sewn-together little baby back. Hence, Tate's Connie Britton hookup was just a means to make sure another wee one shows up in the house.
Violet and Tate have sex and Tate reassures Violet that he'll always be with her. Violet asks if the others will be too but Tate tells her that they can't hurt her.
The backstory of his AHS: Murder House character, Tate Langdon, seemed to be based on the Columbine shooting; his deformed Freak Show character, Jimmy Darling, was inspired by the real "Lobster Boy," Grady Stiles Jr.; and his devious Hotel character, James March, was an adaptation of notorious serial killer H.H. Holmes ...
Violet later understands that Tate is indeed dead and is a ghost. After her death, Billie Dean asks Constance to "talk" to Addie, which she does. When Constance learns that Tate's ghost had sex with Vivien, she asks Billie Dean what happens when a human copulates with a spirit and there is a conception.
Can the ghosts leave the house? Yes, the ghosts can leave the house but not the property. The ghosts may leave the property on Halloween and only on Halloween. This is why Tate is seen having coffee with Ben in the park, and why Tate and Violet can have their date on the beach.
Update: So, the theory that Tate was in fact aware he was dead was confirmed in the episode, Smoldering Children.

American Horror Story: Murder House is the first season of the FX horror anthology series American Horror Story. The season's theme is infidelity, and focuses on the plight of the Harmon family, Ben and Vivien, their daughter Violet and their dog Hallie, as they try to adjust to their new life in present-day Los Angeles, after Vivien has a miscarriage and Ben has an affair with one of his psychiatry students, Hayden McClaine. Violet, although originally upset about the move due to her being unable to make friends at her new school, begins to bond with the house, viewing it as a symbol of empowerment after she and her mother fought off home intruders. Violet also grows fond of one of her dad's therapy patients, who is being treated for psychosis, Tate Langdon. Ben and Vivien must endure the trials and tribulations of Ben's constant infidelity while Vivien is pregnant, prompting vengeful ex-mistress Hayden and overly maternal next-door neighbor and former resident of the house, Constance Langdon, to scheme to steal the children. The family soon learns that things are not how they seem when they begin encountering people who they thought were dead in their house.
When the Harmons first view the house, Marcy gives them "full disclosure" of the house's history, but in fact only tells them about the previous tenants being found in the basement, in what was believed to be a murder-suicide. The house's past history has caused its price to drop by half of its worth.
Hayden McClaine (portrayed by Kate Mara) is the emotionally unstable, former lover and student of Ben Harmon. In the episode " Home Invasion ", she calls Ben to request that he return to Boston to support her in getting an abortion, as she is pregnant with his baby. In the next episode, " Murder House ", it is revealed that she had not gone through with the abortion. She informs Ben that she plans on moving to Los Angeles and expects Ben to divorce Vivien, pay for all of her expenses, and help her raise the child. Hayden is then murdered by Larry Harvey when he beats her to death with a shovel. She is buried in the backyard, alongside Moira's body, and Ben builds a gazebo on top of the grave. Since that episode, Hayden appears several times as a ghost to harass the Harmons, particularly in an attempt to drive Vivien crazy enough for her to be admitted for psychiatric treatment, and to stake her claim on one of the unborn babies. After the birth of the babies and Vivien's death, Ben is convinced by Vivien's ghost to leave the house with their only surviving child, before being met at the stairs by Hayden's ghost and the ghosts of the home invaders, Fiona and Dallas. The ghosts forcefully hang Ben from the chandelier, strangling him to death. Constance finds Ben's body, and immediately goes looking for her grandson. She finds him in the basement with Hayden's ghost cradling the living twin in her arms, intent on not allowing anyone to take him. Travis slices her throat (simply a momentary distraction, since both were already ghosts), takes the baby, and gives him to Constance. Later, Hayden tries to convince Tate's ghost that Violet will never acknowledge him again. He tells her that he is willing to "wait forever" for that to happen.
Violet Harmon (portrayed by Taissa Farmiga as teenage Violet, Carmen Blanchard as young Violet) is the teenage daughter of Ben and Vivien Harmon, who is initially unhappy about moving to Los Angeles. In the pilot episode, Violet befriends Tate Langdon, one of her father's patients, and the two eventually start dating. She later discovers that he is in fact a ghost who died in the house after committing a mass shooting at her school in 1994. Before making this discovery, she and Tate go on a date on Halloween night, only to be confronted by many of the ghosts of the students he murdered in the shooting. Days later, when speaking to Constance, and a medium Billie, she tells her Tate is dead, and walking among the living. Overwhelmed with fear and shock, she attempts suicide by ingesting a bottle of pills, but is seemingly saved by Tate. However, in " Smoldering Children ", Tate reveals that her suicide attempt was successful and that she is now a ghost too. She lives in the murder house with her family. Neither she or her parents are aware of this at first, because Tate hid her body in a crawl space under the house. When she tries to tell Ben that she's a ghost and therefore cannot leave the house, he refuses to listen to her, and accuses her of being on drugs. In " Birth ", Violet is informed by Chad Warwick, the ghost of a former resident, that Tate was the one who murdered him and his boyfriend, and also raped Vivien. As a result, she banishes Tate from contact with her by using the trick he taught her in " Open House ". She is then comforted by Vivien, who died during childbirth. Violet apologizes for Vivien's death and the loss of the baby, and the two reconcile. In the season finale, Tate tries to murder a teenage boy who is currently living in the house in order to give Violet someone else to love, but she stops him and kisses Tate goodbye, allowing the boy to escape. At Christmas time, Violet is seen decorating a tree with her parents and Moira, as Tate watches from afar.
Larry Harvey (portrayed by Denis O'Hare ), also known as the "Burned Man", is a former owner of the Murder House. He is heavily scarred, and walks with a limp. He originally claims, in the " Pilot " episode, that he acquired these injuries when he burned his wife and children alive, while under the house's influence, but it is revealed in a later episode, that his wife Lorraine set herself and their daughters, Margaret and Angie, on fire upon learning of Larry's affair with Constance. In the same episode, it is revealed that Tate actually set Larry on fire as revenge for killing his brother Beauregard. Larry later disposes of Travis' body after Hayden's ghost kills him and, in the " Smoldering Children " episode, implicates himself in the murder as an act of penance for what he had done to his wife and children. He is subsequently arrested and jailed for the murder. He is visited by Constance and tells her that he will be able to endure the punishment if she can just admit that she loves him, but she cruelly rebuffs him. As Larry doesn't appear in Apocalypse, he was mentioned by Ben in the episode " Return to Murder House ". For his performance, O'Hare was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie .
Larry was one of the Murder House's previous owners, having lived there with his wife, Lorraine, and their two young daughters in the early 1990s.
He claimed to have been arrested and sent to prison after he was accused of dousing the beds of his family in gasoline and setting fire to them as they slept, and that he was released due to terminal brain cancer.
He told Lorraine that he was leaving her and was having Constance move back into the house. Larry says that after telling his wife about his plans, she locked herself in their daughters' room and set it on fire, which Larry alleges is the origin of his burns.
Over the next few weeks, Larry continues to follow and heckle Ben. He has mentioned that he always wanted to be an actor in plays, and asks Ben for $1,000, which he wants to use for headshots in exchange for "services".
Larry tells him to read his trial transcripts and get out of the house. Ben is angry at this intrusion into his life and tells Larry that he will have him committed if he does not stay away from him and his family.
Prompted by Lorraine's words, Larry takes the fall for Travis' murder in order to pay for all he's done. As a request before his incarceration, Larry asks for Constance to visit him, where he tells her that he's taking the fall as penance for his crimes but that he still loves her and will be able to endure his imprisonment fully if she reciprocates his feelings. However, Constance tells him that she will never love him and then departs, leaving Larry alone and remorseful.
Hayden later calls on him (as a return favor for his murdering of her) to get rid of Travis ' horribly mutilated corpse. He tosses it in a nearby public basketball court. Larry is seen with a smile on his face as he watches some of the court's users find the body in horror.

American Horror Story is a horror anthology series known for putting new twists on classic tropes like demon s, ghosts and even aliens . However, it's also known for using the same actors and pushing their performances in new directions with characters that are often fundamentally different from previous performances. One of the best examples of this can be seen with franchise veterans Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters, who have been with AHS since the early seasons. But there is one actor whose face may not be as recognizable, but his performances are just as iconic -- John Carroll Lynch.
John Carroll Lynch is the glue that keeps American Horror Story together in every season he is in. While he isn't in all of them, his characters are often immortalized. American Horror Story: Cult even features a comic book based on Twisty. Each performance brings a new type of horror that isn't expected and delivered in a manner that only Lynch can bring. If his roles prove anything, it's that whenever he shows up, expect the unexpected.
In American Horror Stories ' "Drive In," the story saves its main villain for the very end. Larry Bitterman is a film director who becomes obsessed with the effects of subliminal messaging after the release of The Exorcist. After endless research on sound waves and mind-altering studies like Project MKUltra, he creates the film Rabbit Rabbit. When watched, the movie turns its viewers to violence and rage, killing anyone near them. To many, this is demented, but to Bitterman, it's the pinnacle of cinema. Lynch plays the character with the same passion as any director. However, due to his obsession, the subject of his passions makes him seem even more unhinged than he lets on. To Bitterman, those against his work are trying to stifle art, and nothing will stop him from showing his film to the masses.
Lynch ensures that Gacy's instability is prevalent as he joins other famous serial killers like Richard Ramirez at James March's ghostly Devil's Night dinner at the Hotel Cortez. In the scene, Lynch shows up in the Pogo makeup, holding a knife and discussing his murders and the steps to hiding a body.
Twisty first appeared in American Horror Story: Freak Show and began his life tragically. As a baby, he was dropped on his head, leading to a mental disability that affected his everyday life . As he got older, Twisty left to join the circus as a clown and was a fast success with the children. However, his rise in popularity caused jealousy with his fellow circus performers, who ruined his career with false claims that he was molesting children.
Paulson did double-duty in American Horror Story season 4, portraying conjoined twins who worked for Elsa's freak show. Bette and Dot Tattler were known as The Siamese Sisters, twins who shared a torso, arms, and legs but they had two distinct heads. They were found after Bette murdered their mother for sheltering them their entire lives. Despite the murder, Bette was the friendlier twin whereas Dot was cynical towards everything. The twins contemplated getting surgery so they could be separated by they decide against the idea. In the end, both twins married Jimmy Darling and it was revealed they eventually had a child.
Paulson has been a mainstay for the AHS franchise since the series first aired in 2011. The actress served as a lead character for a majority of the installments and at times, has portrayed more than one character in the same season.
When Ally Mayfair-Richards was introduced in AHS season 7, she was a weak-willed woman crippled by a number of phobias. Her anxiety and fears worsened after the 2016 Presidential Election which, in turn, affected her relationship with her wife Ivy and son, Ozzy.
Wilhemina Venable And Cordelia Goode In American Horror Story: Apocalypse. Paulson truly upped her game for American Horror Story season 9, playing a total of three characters. In the early episodes of the season, Paulson portrayed Wilhemina Venable, the leader of Outpost 3.
Paulson remained as one of the main characters in the third season of AHS , this time in a role she would later reprise down the line. She played Cordelia Foxx, the disappointing daughter of Fiona Goode, the current Supreme. Fiona was the headmistress of Miss Robichaux's Academy but Cordelia served as a mentor to many of the young witches. After Cordelia was blinded, she was gifted with Second Sight, giving her more clarity in life. As her mother weakened, Cordelia continued to get stronger with her powers. This gave her the confidence to move the coven in the right direction. Cordelia eventually took over as the Supreme after passing the Seven Wonders test.
When Paulson made her AHS debut, she played the minor role as the medium, Billie Dean Howard. Constance Langdon introduced Billie Dean to Violet Harmon to provide insight into Tate's current state. Billie Dean also explained the afterlife to Violet after realizing that the young girl was a ghost herself.
Paulson portrayed Shelby Miller in the first half of the season. It was then revealed that her role as Shelby was just a reenactment for the production of a series called My Roanoke Nightmare. The real Shelby was played by Lily Rabe and Paulson was portraying an actress named Audrey Tindall.
Apocalypse Characters. Dr. Ben Harmon is a psychiatrist practicing out of his home office. He is a character in American Horror Story portrayed by Dylan McDermott. He is the husband of Vivien Harmon and father of Violet Harmon.

After Vivien had a miscarriage, he and his wife fell into a grieving state. This led to Ben cheating on his wife with his student, Hayden McClaine, and subsequently impregnating her. In an attempt to save their marriage, Ben convinced his wife moved to Los Angeles to start over.
Ben decides to bury her body and builds a gazebo over it. Larry continues to harass Ben, demanding payment for killing Hayden, although Ben rebuffs him. Vivien later confronts Ben with his phone bill. Ben reiterates that his relationship with Hayden is over although she does not believe him and demands that he leave.
Ben believes Hayden's death was staged, and both she and Larry are trying to extort him. Ben is also forced to reveal he impregnated Hay den months after Vivien discovered their affair and is forced to leave the house.
Ben, Vivien Harmon and Tate Langdon are only three characters to appear in all episodes of Murder House.
Ben heads over to Boston as his former student and mistress Hayden needs his support in having an abortion, although Ben hurriedly rushes home after learning his home was intruded by R. Franklin Murder Reactors.

In 2011, the Harmon family would come to own the house, kicking off the first season of American Horror Story. Psychiatrist Ben Harmon ( Dylan McDermott ), his wife Vivien ( Connie Britton ), and their daughter Violet ( Taissa Farmiga) only lasted a year within the house. Like many of the house’s former owners, things were anything but sunshine and rainbows. Ben was having an affair with one of his former students, named Hayden ( Kate Mara ), and Violet is carrying on a peculiar relationship with the ghost of Tate, though she is unaware that Tate is actually dead.
Constance would return to the house once more when she seduced a man named Larry Harvey ( Denis O’Hare ), who owned the property and lived with his wife Lorraine ( Rebecca Wisocky) and their two daughters. Larry wasn’t a man who beat around the bush and decided to send his wife and daughters to his mother’s residence in order to live in the house with Constance. When Lorraine discovered the affair, she was driven mad with hopelessness. She went into her daughters’ room and set it ablaze with all three of them inside, there were no survivors. Larry would go on to live with Constance, but her children reviled him.
Nestled not too far west from the Hotel Cortez in Los Angeles, the seemingly inoffensive abode has been the location of some three dozen deaths over its tenure. Even though the home has stood for nearly a century, the amount of violence enacted within its walls is staggering. Unbeknownst to casual observers, anybody who has died within the house or on its premises has become a ghost and is tied to its confines for eternity.
In this new series, the couple Troy and Michael Winslow ( Gavin Creel and Matt Bomer) would move into the house with their daughter Scarlett ( Sierra McCormick ). Much like the previous occupants, horror would ensue.
In 2017, the Salem Coven of witches purchased the house while investigating Michael, as he was temporarily in line to become the next head of the coven. The witches Madison Montgomery ( Emma Roberts) and Behold Chablis ( Billy Porter) would also remark that due to the coven owning the house, no more people would have to die and become ghosts within. This was unfortunately undone, as the witch Mallory ( Billie Lourd) travels back in time and kills Michael due to his advent as the Anti-Christ. By killing Michael in the past, Madison and Behold never arrive at Murder House. It is unknown as to whether the house ghosts were affected by this change in the timeline, as the spirits were said to not be held by time in the same way mortals were.
With so much story packed into a few seasons and nearly a century of in-universe lore, it’s no surprise that AHS ’ showrunners have returned to Murder House time and time again. With so many memorable characters that phase in and out of the plot much like their incorporeal forms, there’s something for longtime American Horror Story fans every time the showrunners double back to the house’s otherworldly foundation. It’s almost like returning and seeing old friends after a long time apart. The world may have changed, but they’re still there and happy to see you back. It’s doubtless that this familiarity has built a great rapport with longtime AHS fans, and it likely always will be.
