Shéyaa Bin Abraham-Joseph (born October 22, 1992), known professionally as 21 Savage, is an English-American rapper, songwriter, and record producer. Born in London, he moved to Atlanta with his mother at age seven.
On February 15, 2019, 21 Savage turned himself in to authorities and was booked into a south Georgia jail in response to a warrant for his arrest for felony theft by deception.
The latest: 21 Savage's ongoing immigration battle has been stalled by a criminal case he's involved in, according to his immigration lawyer Charles Kuck. The musical artist, 29, was snapped in Atlanta March 25.
His music career was originally subsidized by his deceased friend's uncle, who gave him money for studio time in 2013. On November 12, 2014, 21 Savage's debut single, "Picky", produced by DJ Plugg, was released. It was later included on his debut mixtape, The Slaughter Tape, which was released on May 25, 2015.
On Feb. 3, 2019, ICE arrested and detained the U.K.-born, U.S.-bred rapper (real name She'yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph) in Atlanta for overstaying a visa that expired in 2006. Jay-Z hired lawyer Alex Spiro to join 21 Savage's legal team, who stated the “Bank Account” MC moved to the U.S. with his parents when he was 7.
Grammy-nominated rapper 21 Savage drew national attention in February when federal immigration authorities arrested him in Atlanta and disclosed he is actually a citizen of the United Kingdom who overstayed his visa here long ago.
For allegedly overstaying his visa, he faces deportation and a 10-year ban from returning to America. The case remains open, mired in a nationwide immigration court backlog that could leave him without legal resolution for years.
21 Savage has been released from ICE's custody; however, his case is still pending. He is allowed to move around the US, but cannot travel abroad.
