The following is a list of episodes for the British sitcom Are You Being Served? that aired from 1972 to 1985. All episodes were 30 minutes long. While all episodes were in colour, the pilot had originally survived only in black-and-white as a film transfer from the original colour source; however, it was restored into colour using the chroma dots computer colour restoration technique and was aired on BBC Two on 1 January 2010.
Sales figures for the department are falling, and Mr Rumbold insists the staff stay behind after the store closes to learn about sales technique. Mr Rumbold suggests that Mr Lucas "smile more" in an effort to help boost his sales figures, but the junior's half-hearted implementation seems to have the opposite effect.

After being down by £600 last week, Mr Rumbold forms a " think tank " to come up with ways to increase sales. Captain Peacock suggests a fashion show, for which Mr Rumbold then takes the credit. When this is performed, with the staff as the models, in front of Young Mr Grace, he doesn't like it and suggests a sale.
Owing to the 1973 oil crisis, Grace Brothers' central heating is turned off during bitterly cold weather. While Mr Rumbold secretly uses an electric fire, the floor staff use other methods to keep themselves warm until Captain Peacock finds out and takes all the devices to Mr Rumbold's office. In an attempt to hide the electric fire, Mr Rumbold's office is set on fire. It is put out by Mr Lucas.

The staff is seen in the Ladies & Gents Dept. only in the opening credits. The rest of the episode takes place in the canteen and in Mr. Rumbold's office.
Are You Being Served? cast member Trevor Bannister (Mr Lucas) chose not to return. Arthur English (Mr Harman) was also not brought back due to his retirement. Wendy Richard (Miss Brahms) took time off from filming EastEnders to film Grace & Favour. Also returning to their roles were John Inman ( Mr Humphries ), Mollie Sugden ( Mrs Slocombe ), Frank Thornton ( Captain Peacock) and Nicholas Smith (Mr Rumbold). These were the same five actors to have appeared in every episode of Are You Being Served?
The idea of a spin-off was suggested by the cast of Are You Being Served? almost immediately after the original series ended in 1985. Lloyd and Croft liked the idea, but agreed that the department store format was exhausted and that any spin-off would require a change of location. Despite the enthusiasm of the original cast, it was almost seven years before Lloyd and Croft brought them back to television.
Mrs Slocombe finds herself in court charged with stealing a gypsy cart. Captain Peacock and the others travel to town on the back of Moulterd's pig cart. Once in court the staff come forward as character witnesses.
Mrs Slocombe's cat, Tiddles, gets gummed up. A gun discovered by Captain Peacock brings the riot police to Millstone Manor where the criminal records of such notorious characters as "Knuckles Rumbold" are revealed.
Other surviving cast members, such as Mike Berry (Mr Spooner), Benny Lee (Mr Klein) and Larry Martyn (Mr Mash), were not asked to reprise their roles.
The new series has the elderly and womanising "Young Mr Grace", head of Grace Brothers department store , recently deceased while scuba-diving on holiday in the Caribbean with his personal secretary, Miss Jessica Lovelock. As per the instructions in his will, the remaining workers in each department at Grace Brothers' closing sale find their pensions invested in different things. The members of the Men's and Ladies' Departments, along with Ms Lovelock, inherit the estate that is the locale of the show.
This series of events leads all of the cast to assume they are having an affair, which flatters Mr Humphries, though he denies any such goings-on. Despite these events, Mr Humphries continues to be rather ambivalent to the idea of a relationship with anyone. A young man from the village vies with Humphries for Mavis' affection, and frequently attempts to intimidate him by threatening him with violence.
