This time around, based on a suggestion by reader Brian P., we take a look at the time Batman was the world's worst defense attorney. This is a two-parter that ran in late 1969 in the pages of "Superman's Girl Friend, Lois Lane" #99-100 by Robert Kanigher, Irv Novick and Mike Esposito. The story opened with Lois Lane headed to Gotham City to ...

Mar 06, 2022 · Other Legal Issues in The Batman. There are a handful of other legal issues implicated by The Batman that the movie doesn’t have occasion to consider. One of the key plot twists is that a ...
In the acclaimed series Knightfall, Batman needed a replacement after Bane had broken his back. Batman chose Azrael to take his place while he recovered. The result proved disastrous as Azrael broke Batman's no-kill rule and became a blood-thirsty vigilante.
One of the most terrifying moments in Batman's crime fighting career was when he trapped the Soviet assassin KGBeast.
There's a few things Batman shouldn't have done while watching over Dick Grayson. But one of the more eyebrow-raising moments during the Golden Age of Comics was when Robin invited Batman to go skinny dipping with all of his young friends in World's Finest Heroes Vol 14. Batman considered it by saying "that's not a bad idea."
The earthquake that leveled Gotham City in No Man's Land was the worst tragedy to ever happen to the struggling city. The worst part about it was that Gotham was sealed off from society by the government.
A lot of this list contains situations where Batman needs counsel to get out of legal trouble. But what if Batman wants to bring a case against someone else? If Batman had grounds to press criminal or civil charges against anyone it would be Talia Al Ghul. Talia, daughter of Ra's, drugged Bruce so she could impregnate herself.
It's hard to imagine a time Batman found himself in a worse legal situation than when President Lex Luthor designated Batman as an enemy of the state. In Superman/Batman: Public Enemies Batman had to work with the first son of Krypton in order to defeat Lex's smear campaign against them both.
A lot of Batman's storylines in the Golden Age of Comics look pretty disturbing when they come across fresh eyes. In the first issue of Batman (not Detective Comics to be clear), Batman has to go up against Hugo Strange. Strange had been conducting experiments on men by injecting a substance that turned them into monsters.
As a result, Bruce is able to accept that he is Batman because he chooses to be, not because he has to be.
Alterations. Due to the many writers who have worked on Batman stories, and constant references due to the central importance of the murder to the Batman mythos, many of the factors concerning the event have been altered.
Origin of Batman. Batman's origin as depicted in All Star Batman & Robin, the Boy Wonder by Frank Miller and Jim Lee. The origin of Batman depicts the events that cause a young Bruce Wayne to become Batman. The core event (the murder of Thomas and Martha Wayne by Joe Chill) has remained fairly unchanged, but the aftermath ...
The story first appeared in Detective Comics #33 (November, 1939), and was retold in graphic novels such as Batman: Year One .
1939), unfolding in a two-page story that establishes the brooding persona of Batman, a character driven by the murder of his parents. Written by Batman co-creator Bill Finger, it depicts a young Bruce Wayne witnessing his parents' murder at the hands ...
Written by Batman co-creator Bill Finger, it depicts a young Bruce Wayne witnessing his parents' murder at the hands of a mugger.
Batman's origin is later expanded upon in Batman #47. Bruce Wayne is born to Dr. Thomas Wayne and his wife Martha, two very wealthy and charitable Gotham City socialites. Bruce is brought up in Wayne Manor, and leads a happy and privileged existence until the age of eight, when his parents are killed by a small-time criminal named Joe Chill ...
No, Batman does not technically kill Ra's, but that's not particular heroic, nor does it emphasize Batman's moral code and how it differs from his enemies. What makes Batman victorious is that his morality is different from the League of Shadows, who he has defeated.
The scene is frustrating because the answer is readily apparent . Batman should simply reach out to save Ra's and then have Ra's reject Bruce's help out of bitterness and enmity. The train is moments away from crashing so Bruce would have no choice but to fly away since he has no reason to lose his own life.
Image via Warner Bros. Earlier in the film, Bruce Wayne ( Christian Bale) is presented with a prisoner he must kill to fully join the League of Shadows, and he refuses to be "an executioner.". This ties into Batman in the larger popular consciousness as a superhero who doesn't kill. While Batman Begins wrestles with the concept ...
Batman replies, "I won't kill you, but I don't have to save you," and then leaves Ra's in a situation from which he can't possibly escape. The train crashes, Ra's dies, the audience cheers. One could argue that Ra's demise is of his own making. He's the one who smashed the train controls, he's the one who planned to take ...
It can't be understated how Nolan's take, loosely based on Frank Miller 's graphic novel Batman: Year One, influenced the action genre and origin stories by playing up the gritty and realistic aspects of mythic characters. Sending Bruce Wayne into the wilderness ...
Image via Warner Bros. Circle back to earlier in the film when Bruce is planning to kill Joe Chill in the courthouse. Before he gets his chance, a woman comes out of nowhere and kills Joe Chill on behalf of Carmine Falcone ( Tom Wilkinson ). Based on where Batman ends up, this earlier moment is now triumphant.
Overall, the film works and was a much-needed resurrection for the character on the big screen after the disastrous Batman & Robin. But the reboot is not without its faults, especially as it reaches its climax. Image via Warner Bros.
