level 1. · 4 yr. ago. It’s called reading the law. It basically means you can become admitted to the bar through apprenticeship studying under a lawyer/judge instead of law school. Mike’s time at the firm counted as this. It technically is still legal in a few states although in some of them I think you have to have some law classes.
