Alan Grant (born 1949) is a Scottish comic book writer known for writing Judge Dredd in 2000 AD as well as various Batman titles from the late 1980s to the early 2000s. He is the co-creator of the characters Anarky, Victor Zsasz, and the Ventriloquist .
Grant is an inspector with Scotland Yard. The most famous novel of the series, The Daughter of Time, was named the greatest mystery novel of all time by the Crime Writers’ Association in 1990. As Randy regained balance, Tim rushed out of the freezer and closed the door. The raptor tried to push back but was kept inside the freezer when Tim's sister, Lex, supported him and locked the door, leaving Randy to either freeze or starve to death.

Early career. Alan Grant first entered the comics industry in 1967 when he became an editor for D.C. Thomson before moving to London from Dundee in 1970 to work for IPC on various romance magazines.
He attended Newtongrange Primary School and Dalkeith High School, where he was frequently expelled and reinstated. After leaving school, he worked briefly in a bank. Grant is married to Susan Grant, and lives with her in Moniaive, Dumfriesshire.
He has long stated that Wagner left after five issues because the title did not sell well enough to give them royalties, and that Wagner's name was kept in the credits for the remaining seven issues because Grant was afraid DC would fire him.
Although it was not a success, it paved the way for the pair to write Batman stories in Detective Comics from issue 583 (Feb. 1988), largely with Norm Breyfogle on art duties across the various Batman titles. Grant and Wagner introduced the Ventriloquist in their first Batman story and the Ratcatcher in their third.
Along with his wife Sue, he organised the annual Moniaive Comics Festival. Grant has written two comic-based novels, The Stone King, (2001) featuring Batman and the Justice League of America, and Last Sons, (2006) featuring Superman, Martian Manhunter and Lobo.
Grant had become involved with writing scripts for animation as well as his comic work, notably working on Action Man cartoons as well as original anime. He remains the main writer for Judge Anderson and Robo-hunter and has teamed up with Wagner for a new Bogie Man story for the Judge Dredd Megazine. He has formed his own publishing company, Bad Press Ltd, which released the humour title Shit the Dog, written by Grant and drawn by Simon Bisley.
Judge Dredd was Grant's main concern for much of the 1980s. Grant and Wagner had developed the strip into the most popular in 2000 AD as well as creating lengthy epic storylines such as The Apocalypse War . Grant wrote for other IPC comics such as the revamped Eagle .
Interestingly, Grant is based on Horner himself - one of the scientific advisers for Jurassic Park - rather than on Bob Makela (1940-1987), Horner's co-author for Maiasaura . Grant had uncovered a Velociraptor skeleton in Montana, when he was invited to Jurassic Park.
At the time of the InGen incident and the time of the publication of the book it can be assumed that Grant was born in either the year 1950 or 1949. Grant tells Tim Murphy that he is a widower. It is revealed that he helped describe the Maiasaura with Jack Horner.
Grant is only mentioned very briefly in The Lost World when it is said that he proposed a theory that Tyrannosaurus rex could not function in the rain, and also that he spoke in conferences in Paris and Peking to Dr. Richard Levine about new Tyrannosaur fossil finds.

Grant believed that people who are successful do not look for fulfillment through others, not even their spouses, rather through themselves. “The Man in the Queue” is the first book in the “Inspector Alan Grant” series; it won the Dutton Mystery Prize and was also published under her pseudonym Gordon Daviot.
Inspector Grant knows that if the actress did commit suicide, she had to have a reason. Same as if someone had killed her. Throughout the investigation, investigators find out that she has led a troubled life.
All police find is that the man has a service revolver that does not seem to be his, based on fingerprints. Some readers liked that rather than have a certain villain to hope the police is able to catch, this book suggests that there is no villain.
Some like that even though the book was written in 1929 that there is no dated-ness to the story, and looks into how a crime is or is not solved by the police. The author takes you along with Grant, so that not only will the reader, but also Grant will miss the big clue to show who the killer in the case is.
The series is also known for “The Franchise Affair”, that came out in 1948 and placed on the same list. Two of the Alan Grant novels have been made into a movie.
Not only that, but they are not always as one dimensional as they seem. Tey’s writing, some fans believe is full of humor, lively, and features range and depth in her characters that makes her an untouchable writer. Fans also say that her books hold up six decades after she has died.
