In the new film “Unplanned,” Planned Parenthood clinic director Abby Johnson (Ashley Bratcher) is depicted watching an abortion in shock.
In one of the first scenes in “Unplanned,” Abby is asked to help with an abortion for a woman who is 13 weeks pregnant. As Abby watches the procedure on a screen, it seems to her that the fetus squirms away from the doctor’s medical instrument. It appears to be fighting for its life.
In "Unplanned," Abby's character has a traumatic experience after taking the abortion pill at home.
To sort fact from fiction, HuffPost spoke to Jen Villavicencio, an OB-GYN and abortion provider in Michigan. Villavicencio is the inverse of Abby Johnson. As a teen in Florida, she was an anti-choice activist who prayed for the end of abortion. She had her own awakening at medical school, and now she provides abortions to women in clinics ...
In one scene, Abby’s boss, Cheryl (Robia Scott), the clear villain of the movie, tells Abby she needs to double the abortions her clinic provides so they can make more money. “‘Nonprofit’ is a tax status, not a business model!” she tells Abby, comparing Planned Parenthood to a fast-food chain.
Abortion is inaccurately depicted as extremely dangerous. In “Unplanned,” a doctor accidentally perforates a teen girl’s uterus while performing an abortion. As the girl goes into shock, the clinic workers decide not to call an ambulance because they’re afraid of bad publicity.

Unsurprisingly, Unplanned is striking a chord with conservative leaders like Vice President Mike Pence, who tweeted in support of the film.
What. Unplanned. Gets Wrong About Abortion, According to Experts. The film "Unplanned" follows the story of a woman who comes to regret her career at Planned Parenthood, but experts say the inaccuracies it portrays are dangerous. By Julyssa Lope z. April 11, 2019. Facebook.
In the film Abby tells a patient that "the one thing that all experts agree on is that at this stage the fetus can't feel anything." Her tone is earnest to the point of being mocking, and the claim is undercut when she witnesses the ultrasound-guided termination later in the film. The filmmakers have said that the abortion scene, which is one of three, is accurate based on Johnson’s experience and that it was vetted by Anthony Levatino, a retired obstetrician-gynecologist and longtime antiabortion activist. (He plays the doctor in the scene.)
Another dangerous inaccuracy in the film is the way abortions themselves are portrayed as dangerous. This is false. "Portrayals with heavy bleeding or tissue falling out are simply not accurate," Dr. McHugh says, adding that complications are "extremely, extremely rare" and that "abortions are incredibly safe.".
Having a well-informed debate is one thing, but knowingly spreading inaccuracies is unconscionable.
(How that happened may not have been the epiphany that is portrayed in the film— Texas Monthly couldn't corroborate her timeline of events and suggested other factors may have fueled her decision to leave Planned Parenthood.) But the way the film portrays abortion is inaccurate and downright dangerous, according to experts.
But the way the film portrays abortion is inaccurate and downright dangerous, according to experts. Unplanned portrays surgical abortions as unsafe and barbaric. In a pivotal scene, Johnson's character is asked to assist during an ultrasound-guided termination procedure.
The Ugly Truth of Unplanned. The Ugly Truth of. Unplanned. by Frost Smith on March 29, 2019. How can it be that abortion is gaining ground in some states in America when recent movies like Gosnell (2018), Living Waters’ 7 Reasons, and Pure Flix’s Unplanned (releasing today) are exposing the horrors of the procedures and the corrupt nature ...
The very imagery (though in Unplanned, it only simulates what actually goes on in every abortion clinic daily) that changed the mind of ardent pro-choice advocate and accoladed Planned Parenthood Clinic Director Abby Johnson is the pinnacle of the film.
Answers in Genesis has promoted films that do not necessarily proclaim the truth of the Genesis account of history or the gospel message outright. But if they are quality productions with themes that support biblical truths, we will bring them to your attention.
Cheryl is Abby’s (Ashley Bratcher ) boss, and it’s through Abby, the wide-eyed volunteer-turned-administrator looking to “keep abortion rare” that Unplanned gets us inside the demonic, bloodstained halls of America’s most heinous baby-killing factory. (One which the film says, and I swear I’m not making this up, is “ backed by Soros ”.)
Eventually, though, men swoop in to rescue Abby: her husband, the leader of the prayer group that shames women from the sidewalk and a lawyer who protects Abby from her evil ex-boss when Planned Parenthood accuses her of spreading misinformation.
Abby is drawn to Planned Parenthood at a college recruitment drive for its women’s health services. (“We discovered someone has cancer today!” is a weirdly cheery line in this film.) Of course, once part of the machinery, Abby learns the awful truth. “Non-profit is a tax status, not a business model!” she is scolded.
Unplanned was financed in part by Mike Lindell, the founder of My Pillow, the only bedding manufacturer I’ve heard of that’s frequently on the bad end of class action lawsuits. You may also know Lindell from one of his more recent hits, calling Donald Trump “ the greatest president in history … chosen by God ”.
In the film “Unplanned”, there are individuals who value what they perceive as children’s livesover convenienceand others who value personal freedomover what they perceive as clumped-together cells.
Consider, as an example, the principle of honesty. If any accord is to be attained on honesty between individuals, then each party must value facts over falsehoods. This means they place a higher preference for truthabove liesand, in so doing, the accord between the individuals would be determined as follows:
In “Unplanned”,Abby realizes while on the way to get her first abortion, she could not tell her Mom. Perhaps she’s even doing her mother a favor by not telling her. But, in the aftermath of a very unpleasant experience at the clinic where she terminated her first pregnancy, Abby commented in the film’s narration something similar to as follows (paraphrased): “Never do anything that you can’t tell your mom.
Yet, just as the film revealed Abby Johnson’s progression from a volunteer greeter, to pregnancy counselor, to a full-blown abortion advocate – so, too, have we witnessed the advancement play out on the societal stage. From “The Pill” to morning-after pills, from early-term to late-term abortions, and, finally, to post-birth procedures. The practicality marches onward and with all the excitement and deliberation of another day at the office.
