Gypsy testified as a witness in his defense. Though her name has been changed to Lacey, it’s apparent that Gypsy’s across-the-street neighbor and friend in The Act is a stand-in for real-life neighbor and friend Aleah Woodmansee. (Just as Chloë Sevigny’s character, Mel, is doubtless a doppelgänger for Aleah’s mother, Amy Pinegar.)
Gypsy's lawyer states that she has to prove she is innocent to the state of Missouri or else she will be killed, and instructs her to provide all available medical records since birth. Gypsy later calls Lacey to ask if she could visit, but Lacey is non-committal.

"I'm very happy that I was able to do her voice and become her more completely." The Act true story reveals that Gypsy Rose Blanchard's voice was indeed that high pitched, especially while she was under her mother's care. You can hear her squeaky voice in this interview from 2008 when she was almost 17.
She hasn't shared what her friendship is like with Gypsy today, but Woodmansee recently spoke with In Touch about The Act, and while she isn't watching the series, she isn't impressed with the portrayal she's getting based on the trailer for the series. “Honestly, I have not watched the show,” she said.
Currently, 29-year-old Nick Godejohn is serving time for murder — and will be for life.
There was no sign of her daughter, Gypsy Rose, who, according to Blanchard, had chronic conditions including leukemia, asthma, and muscular dystrophy, and had the "mental capacity of a 4-year-old due to brain damage" she had from her premature birth.
Gypsy and Nick did not actually meet in person until March 2015, when Gypsy planned for herself and her mother to be at a Springfield movie theater at the same time as Nick. (For the planned run-in, Gypsy and Nick coordinated costumes—Gypsy dressed as Cinderella and Nick dressed as Prince Charming.)

To be brief: In June 2015, Gypsy conspired with her boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, to murder her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, who it turned out had made Gypsy a lifelong victim of her Munchausen syndrome by proxy.
And in March, Hulu premiered The Act, an eight-part dramatic series based on the events leading up to and including Dee Dee’s murder, sourced from BuzzFeed reporter Michelle Dean’s 2016 investigative feature.
Dean’s reporting makes the important distinction that the granular bits of fascination surrounding Gypsy’s life are hard to keep straight even to Gypsy, though The Act is overall faithful to her ongoing misapprehension of her own age and year of birth.
The Act acknowledges in every episode that some of its events have been “dramatized or fictionalized,” which can make it even more difficult than it already is to suss out the concrete facts, such as they are, at the heart of this story.
Gypsy’s father has been reluctant to speak with media of late, though with The Act having concluded and his efforts to push for her early release ramping up, he did recently open up to a reporter with A&E’s Real Crime, revealing that he speaks with his daughter weekly and makes the trip from Louisiana to Missouri to visit the prison when he can. As for the specific visit depicted in the series finale, it provided both dramatic closure and was efficient exposition, but in truth, it was Stanfield who recovered Gypsy’s records, and it took months to procure them.
Gypsy met Nicholas Godejohn on a Christian dating site. Hulu. Gypsy asked Godejohn to kill her mother. "Honey, you forget I am ruthless, and my hatred of her will force her to die," Godejohn texted Gypsy before the murder. "It's my evil side doing it. He won't mess up, because he enjoys killing.".
Gypsy's attorney, Michael Stanfield, told Buzzfeed that she gained 14 pounds in the 12 months she spent in Greene County Jail before her plea; most inmates lose weight due to the poor food quality, which seems to indicate that Gypsy had been malnourished when living with her mother.

In 2013, Gypsy starts her sexual awakening, seeing a guy who mows the lawn, and gets interested in dating as Lacey tells her about her new boyfriend. Dee Dee wants to get legal guardianship of Gypsy, however it won't be easy, as she'll only get it if Gypsy is incapacitated and Gypsy has to agree to it.
( 2019-03-20) In 2009, Gypsy starts sneaking at night to eat sugary foods while watching make-up videos, bringing about a visit to the dentist where all her teeth are removed, due to them rotting from the medications that Dee Dee gave her.

Apr 3, 2019. Brownie Harris. If you’ve been following Hulu’s new series, The Act, which is based on the true story of Gypsy Rose Blanchard and her mother Dee Dee, then you know that the show is quite dramatic. That makes sense, because the real story is pretty unbelievable too.
While researching the true story behind The Act show, we learned that Gypsy got to meet country singer Miranda Lambert and then-husband Blake Shelton. Lambert personally gave Dee Dee and Gypsy a check for $3,500. Gypsy also met two of her favorite actors, Elijah Wood and Sean Astin from Lord of the Rings.

The difference from the TV show is that it only happened once in real life (after running away to be with the guy she met at the sci-fi convention). Gypsy said that she was starved and terrified. Some of that terror is absent from the show and she instead acts more submissive than frightened.

Yes. In researching The Act true story, we verified that like in the Hulu series, Gypsy and Nick mailed the murder weapon to Nick's house. During Nick Godejohn's interrogation, he said that Gypsy had the mailing envelope ready for the knife.
Prior to that, King's version of Gypsy appears meek and childlike in the lead-up and after she and her boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn (Calum Worthy), murdered her mother, Dee Dee (Patricia Arquette ), who spent years concocting fake health conditions to keep Gypsy trapped in their home.
One year later, Gypsy appeared much more calm as she plead guilty to second-degree murder (video here) and received a 10-year prison sentence. While her high-pitched voice remained the same, Gypsy's hair then reached her shoulders, and she was able to speak without crying.
