(CNN) The orbit of former advisers and associates of President Donald Trump who have been indicted or found guilty grew Thursday when Steve Bannon, his former senior adviser and chief strategist, was arrested and indicted. The crimes they have been accused of are different and stem from a constellation of alleged criminal conspiracies.
When former president Donald Trump decided to sue three reporters The New York Times and his niece Mary L. Trump over a 2018 story on his tax returns, he didn't turn to a big-name media lawyer. Instead, he is being represented by the Bedminster, New Jersey-based Alina Habba, managing partner of Habba Madiao & Associates (via The Washington Post ).
Ethics complaints have also been filed with the state bars in Arizona, Michigan and Texas against lawyers who filed post-election casesâmost notably against Sidney Powell, a far-right attorney who was the most prominent spreader of a fraud conspiracy theory involving Dominion Voting Systemsâ voting machines.
How Habba is regarded by peers and clients within the legal profession is not apparent in the online lawyer review sites where she maintains a presence.
Habba's appointment to lead Trump's multimillion dollar lawsuit has baffled legal watchers, since the former has only used high-profile attorneys in the past.
Republican Senator Lindsey Graham recommended Bowers to Trump and told Fox News he sees him as the âanchor tenantâ of Trumpâs team. Trump adviser Jason Miller, who also ran Sanfordâs gubernatorial and congressional campaigns, said Bowers âwill do an excellent job defending President Trumpâ.
Bowers worked for Sanford when state lawmakers mulled impeaching him after revelations Sanford had disappeared from the state, leaving no chain of command for five days, to see his lover in Argentina in 2009. The effort never made it out of committee.

Dershowitz controversially said in Trumpâs defense on the Senate floor in January that âif a president does something which he believes will help him get elected in the public interest, that cannot be the kind of quid pro quo that results in impeachment.â.
(Source: C-SPAN) Alan Dershowitz, a Harvard law professor known for representing celebrity criminal defendants, also has other business before the Trump administration.
Only thanks to sources willing to talk to reporters has a picture emerged of Giulianiâs extensive representation of foreign clients seeking to influence the U.S. government while he simultaneously serves as a personal attorney to the president.
After a torrent of criticism, Dershowitz said his remarks had been misconstrued. Dershowitz has said he will not accept compensation for his legal defense of Trump. He told POGO that he is not lobbying the administration, only representing Gertler in a legal capacity.
Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani had his law license temporarily suspended by the New York Supreme Court Thursday for making âdemonstrably false and misleading statementsâ in his effort to overturn the presidential election, potentially becoming the first in a series of Trump-allied attorneys who could face disbarment and other serious consequences for their post-election lawsuits..
The New York Supreme Courtâs Appellate Division will hold a formal disciplinary hearing at which Giuliani can make his case and which will lead to a determination as to whether his license to practice law should be permanently revoked.
In a post-election case in Pennsylvania, Giuliani âhimself stated: âI donât know whatâs more serious than being denied your right to vote in a democracy.â We agree,â the Attorney Grievance Committee for the First Judicial Department at the New York Supreme Court wrote in their ruling suspending Giulianiâs license.
Giuliani has the right to request a hearing to appeal the ruling, though the committee predicted in their ruling the lawyerâs alleged misconduct âwill likely result in substantial permanent sanctions at the conclusion of these disciplinary proceedings.â Before that, Giuliani and Powell will appear in court Thursday afternoon for a hearing on whether Dominionâs lawsuits against them should be dismissed.
Giulianiâs attorneys said in a statement Thursday the suspension of the lawyerâs license was âunprecedented,â noting they âbelieve that our client does not pose a present danger to the public interestâ and predicting Giulianiâs license would be reinstated after heâs able to present his case.
Trump and his allies brought more than 60 lawsuits in the aftermath of the election challenging the vote count and seeking to overturn the results, which all failed except for one narrow ruling in Pennsylvania that only affected a small number of ballots.
In addition to the lawsuits brought by Dominion and Smartmatic, Giuliani is also facing two separate lawsuits brought by Democratic members of Congress alleging the attorney helped to provoke the attack on the U.S. Capitol building on Jan. 6.

Trump's onetime national security adviser, Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his talks with the then-Russian ambassador about approaches that would undermine Obama administration policy before Trump took office.
The case has become a political lightning rod, with Trump and Flynn both saying he's been treated unfairly by the judge and the prosecutors who cut his plea deal. Trump has not ruled out a pardon for Flynn.
Ethical values, such as honesty and kindness, inform ethical behavior. The short answer is President Trump has not acted in an ethical manner on many occasions and the voters should consider it when deciding whether to support him in 2020. At a minimum, Trump stretches the truth.
