Cyrus's nephew Arthur, a widower, is informed by Cyrus's estate lawyer, Ben Moss, that he has inherited Cyrus' mansion. Financially insecure, Arthur decides to move there with his two children, Kathy and Bobby, and their nanny, Maggie. Dennis meets the family as they tour the mansion.
Cyrus kills Kalina, who objected to Cyrus putting the kids in danger, and summons the ghosts to activate the machine. In the main hall, Arthur witnesses all twelve ghosts orbiting a clockwork device of rotating metal rings, with his children at the center.
Bobby sees several of the ghosts, including the Withered Lover - his mother Jean, who had died of injuries sustained in a house fire. He is knocked unconscious and dragged away. Dennis uses a pair of spectral glasses that allow the wearer to see the supernatural realm to avoid the ghosts.
When Ben is visiting the house one night, and realizes that Buck is coming close to finding the treasure, he convinces Buck to keep this a secret from his family. However, Buck still tells his family that he has a secret, so the next night, Ben attempts to use Zorba's falling canopy bed to silence him. However, at that moment, Dr. Zorba's ghost appears and takes revenge on Ben by suffocating him with the bed.
Ben first tries to warn the family about the twelve violent ghosts inhabiting the house so that the family will leave and be out of Ben's way. When this fails, Ben dresses up as Dr. Zorba's ghost one night and comes into Medea 's room, in an attempt to scare the family into leaving.
Ben Rush was Cyrus Zorba 's lawyer, and formerly best friends with Dr. Plato Zorba, whom he murdered for a hidden fortune.
When Cyrus was apparently "killed in an accident", Moss visits Cyrus' nephew, Arthur, to inform him that he and his family have inherited Cyrus' mansion. That night, Moss takes Arthur and his family to the mansion, where they meet Dennis Rafkin posing as a power company employee.
Ben's character is based off of Benjamin Rush from the 1960 film, though his role isn't nearly as large.
Horace "Breaker" Mahoney, The Juggernaut, is definitely the most dangerous ghost to be found within Thirteen Ghosts, and can be considered almost a " final boss " of the group. A mountain of a man, Horace was a serial killer who would pick up hitchhikers or offer rides to the stranded, only to take them back to his junkyard and tear them apart with his bare hands. He'd then feed their bodies to his dogs. Along with The Hammer, The Juggernaut sadly decimates friendly psychic character Dennis Rafkin.
The Jackal. Easily the most volatile and unpredictable of the ghosts in Thirteen Ghosts, The Jackal was born Ryan Kuhn in 1887, and grew up to be a sick and twisted man. A vicious and compulsive sexual predator and killer, Ryan did actually seek help for his affliction, checking into an asylum.
The Great Child and The Dire Mother are another case of the ghosts being exactly what they sound like. Margaret Shelburne was a little person who worked in a carnival freak show, and her enormous son Harold was the result of a sexual assault by the carnival's tallest member of the freak troupe. Some of the other freaks later murdered Margaret, leading Harold to go crazy with an ax and kill most of them, before he himself was killed by an angry mob.
Formed in 1999, Dark Castle was named after B-movie pioneer William Castle, and was designed with the goal of crafting crowd-pleasing theatrical horror movies with recognizable actors and studio budgets. Many of their films were remakes of horror classics, some of which had been produced or directed by Castle himself.
Of course, that's due to her particularly tragic backstory, as she was Jean Kriticos, wife of protagonist Arthur ( Tony Shalhoub) and mother to his children Kathy and Bobby. Jean died in a house fire that the rest of her family made it out of alive.
The Torn Prince was a high school baseball star in the late-1950s, explaining the ever-present baseball bat weapon that he'll happily use to attack any of Thirteen Ghosts ' living characters.
Named Royce Clayton in life, The Torn Prince died during a drag race, after losing control of his car in a horrific accident.
