They start dating after they believe the case is closed, but drifts apart when JR realizes Petra has lied about her involvement in her sister's death. Jane Ramos is a straight-shooting, tough lawyer who Petra retains as her counsel following the death of Anežka Archuletta. After the case had been closed, Jane and Petra start dating. However, while playing with Petra's daughters, she comes across the broken heel mentioned in Magda's testimony. After confronting Petra about the heel, she realizes that Petra did kill Anežka to protect her daughters. She gets furious and breaks up with Petra, but returns when she realizes Petra may be in danger. They stay broken up until Petra tries to reconnect and when JR sees Petra's baggage with her own eyes, she's willing to give their relationship another try. After having been disbarred because of what Petra did, JR works as a bartender but is later able to get a job in the legal field with help from her mentor. Jane moves to Houston for said job and a fresh start but returns after her mother's death and reunites with Petra.

When JR tells her, she isn't her type, Petra follows her on a date, only to accidentally reverses back into the car behind her, making JR notice her. She confronts her and Petra hastily admits her feelings before leaving. Later that night, JR comes to Petra's room and tells her that she enjoyed her, that she was impressed by her "romantic gesture" and they kiss. They start dating and JR is introduced to her family, including her kids, Jane and Rafael. When Magda comes forward in the case against Petra, JR gives up her career, telling the police about she was blackmailed to work against Petra, resulting in the case being dropped. However, JR is furious when she realizes Petra lies about what happened that night and actually did push Anežka and ends their relationship, leaving Petra heartbroken. Still, when she gets words that someone is coming after Petra, JR returns and gets back just in time to save Petra from being shot by Miloš, Petra's ex-husband.
