The four juvenile defendants served 6â7 years each; the 16-year-old was tried and sentenced as an adult and served 13 years in an adult prison. The five other defendants, indicted for assaults of other victims, pleaded guilty to reduced charges and received less severe sentences.
The irony of the thing is that they were â safe, that is. In terms of per capita presence, Central Park is the most policed area in New York, given that it has a precinct all of its own and no fixed population to monitor.
