Your point about distance is probably the best point you have. Without knowing the exact distance of the vehicle to the SMD, it is impossible to calculate how big the beam of the laser is. Lets say he targeted you three miles away.
You seem to know about this. Is it typically standard to write the distance when using LIDAR? I have seen several tickets via reading this forum that do include that. My concern is...I don't have the exact distance. I know it was at least 100 yards away, my car didn't have a license plate, and the cars in front of me had already slowed down.
Was hoping for a few more replies. Forgot to mention this, because I did not know it was noteworthy until earlier. He used the LIDAR within the car and the windows were up. Some LIDAR manufacturers explicitly state that LIDAR must be used outside the vehicle, because light gets refracted through glass.
His windows were up as my car crossed his, but I had already been "clocked" - the mistake had been made. LIDAR does not work when gauging speed directly perpendicular to the device. Meaning, it was either via the driver's side window or back driver's side window.
Did I miss what state you are in? Do you know the LIDAR model? A manual "recommendation" is not a requirement.

You have a lot of information, most do not get that much. As for the calibration timetable, you can ask if there's any requirement for that at court.
fyi most lidar manufacturers do not require post-production calibration ; so you'll have to look at state law/regs to support this need.
I think (i)-- the unit has not been calibrated in over three years-- could be very helpful, but I cannot find anything in either statutes or case law in my state requiring LIDAR units to be tested/calibrated with any frequency.

Check RADAR and LIDAR calibration: for RADAR and LIDAR tickets, the equipment used to “clock” your speed must be calibrated regularly. If you ask for proof and the police cannot provide records or testimony of the person who maintains the equipment, you might get the ticket dismissed.
Confirm identify (only for camera tickets): in some states, all you need to do to beat a camera ticket is to swear, under oath, that you were not the driver and it will be tossed. (Note: we are not advising you to lie under oath - a serious offense.) You typically aren’t required to tattle on the real driver either.
