Jem doesn't want to be a lawyer anymore because Atticus questioned him and he fell in his trick. Therefore, he got mad and told him he no longer wanted to be a lawyer. What happens when the kids sneak into the Radley lot to look in the window?
Jem is struggling with the disillusionment and loss of innocence that comes with knowledge and maturity, a major theme in To Kill a Mockingbird. Like a caterpillar safe in its cocoon, he had always felt safe among the people of Maycomb.

Scout and Jem hold up Dill so that he can look in the window, but all he sees are curtains and "a little teeny light way off somewhere." They move on to the back porch,where Jem carefully tiptoes up to look in another window.
How does Jem mature during the novel? Jem begins to grow away from Scout and prefers to spend time on his own. He becomes moody and feels Scout should also start to mature and behave less like a tomboy and more like a young lady.
Jem was in tears, trying to understand how the jury could have returned such a verdict, and Atticus told him, "'They've done it before and they did it tonight and they'll do it again and when they do it -- seems that only children weep. '" Chapter 22, Pg. 215 With that he went to bed.
Why did Jem cry? He cried because it wasn't fair that the Tom should be convicted of something he didn't do, and the jruy knew he didn't do this and yet they still sentenced him to death.
Jem cries at the end of chapter 7 because he realizes all his life when he said how mean Boo was, is was complete and utter lies. Boo was being mistreated the whole time, and no one will help him.
Jem also wants to become a lawyer. His father asks, "You want to be a lawyer don't you"(Lee 83). This quote shows that Jem wanted to be a lawyer and this fits with the diamond because lawyers need a sharp mind to be able to figure out how to win. Lawyers also try to leave no loose ends, and circles have no ends.
