Last week we reviewed the first three appearances of Matthew McConaughey , Attorney at Lawesome. In the second of this two-part series, letâs look at the most recent, and, dare I say (dare! dare!), most good movies in which MM plays a lawyer.
Enter Double M. Danny Buck (love it) joins the story at this point as the D.A. prosecuting Bernie for the murder. Bernieâs defense is that, while he did it, it was the result of prolonged abuse and some kind of temporary fugue state, so what say we give me a mulligan on the whole thing. Danny Buck ainât having any. It does not help his case that Bernie hid Margeâs body in a freezer, pretended she was still alive and spent her money lavishly for months after he killed her.
Production Note. The unjustly convicted client is named Jesus. Subtlety can go f*ck itself, I guess.
Given McConaughey-as-attorneyâs predilection for freeing The Black Man ( Time to Kill, Amistad ), itâs a little strange that he doesnât do that in a movie with â Lincolnâ in the title. Yes, it refers to the car that his character uses as the worldâs coolest office.

After watching a rough cut of the film on November 12, 2010, Michael Connelly, author of the book The Lincoln Lawyer, said:
The story is adapted from the first of several novels featuring the character of Mickey Haller, who works out of a chauffeur-driven Lincoln Town Car rather than an office. Haller is hired to defend the son of a wealthy Los Angeles businesswoman in an assault case. Details of the crime bring up uncomfortable parallels with a former case, and Haller discovers the two cases are intertwined.
Haller is certain that Roulet stole the weapon when he broke into his home. Legally obliged to defend his client, guilty or not, Haller ruthlessly cross-examines Campo and discredits her in the jury's eyes. He then sets up a known prison informant with information on the previous murder.
Now believing Roulet is the killer in the Martinez case, he is bound by attorneyâclient confidentiality rules, and unable to reveal what he knows. Roulet breaks into Haller's house and nonchalantly admits to committing the murder for which Martinez was convicted.
Haller discovers that his late father's .22 Colt Woodsman is missing from its box, the same caliber gun that killed Levin.
