 · Officer Adam Stoddard of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office has added contempt of court to his prior violation of attorney-client confidentiality. At the urging of his boss, Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Stoddard has refused to apologize to defense attorney Joanne Cuccia after he swiped handwritten notes from her papers — caught in the videotape above.
 · The video shows a criminal court hearing in which a deputy assigned to court security walks over to the defense attorney’s papers on the counsel table and starts to look at the papers. Eventually he reaches down and pulls out a document from the stack of papers, passes it off to another deputy, and then the other deputy walks away with it.

Stoddard swiped the papers while defense attorney Joanne Cuccia was addressing the court on behalf of her client, Antonio Lozano. The response of Judge Lisa Flores was remarkably understated and restrained given the horrific breach of confidentiality.
Arpaio, however, has declared that he will defy the order. Arpaio is the most controversial sheriff in the country and is routinely accused of abusive practices. On this occasion, he is defending his deputies pulling handwritten notes from the files of lawyers to be copied and reviewed. For the story, click here.

He claimed that he saw the words “going to,” “steal,” and “money” on a handwritten sheet of paper sticking out of Cuccia’s file, which led him to believe that Lozano posed a security threat.
Officers are allowed to flip through papers to see if there is contraband or weapons. They are not supposed to read confidential notes for their content or make copies of them. It is clear that the judges in the courthouse have allowed Arpaio and his officers too much discretion.
Judge Donahoe has ordered me to feel something I do not and say something I cannot. I cannot apologize for putting court safety first. The judge therefore puts me in a position where I must lie or go to jail. And I will not lie.”. The statement is nonsensical.

The prosecutors have a right to stand aside on principle and not fight to defend such conduct. They can decline and, if necessary, arrange for private counsel to represent the officer. Stoddard self-surrendered to jail after a court order was issued.
Deputy Adam Stoddard#N#In October, Deputy Adam Stoddard was caught on surveillance video removing a paper from a defense attorney’s file. Judge Gary Donahoe held Stoddard in contempt of court for the action and ordered him to apologize or go to jail. Stoddard held a press conference Monday night, but instead of apologizing Stoddard said he did nothing wrong.#N#Come on Deputy Adam Stoddard, what you did was wrong taking a document from the courts without first asking. Now that you’ve been cuaght it’s easy to claim it’s your job but that’s not what America saw on Video as you peered over your shoulder (as if you did not want to appear as you were reading) and then tried to cover up your violation. The fact you’re not man enough to fess up to your wrong tells America the true story. You’re not about justice, you’re a fraud in a fancy uniform with a tin badge you hide behind. Shame on you Deputy Adam Stoddard you make all law enforcement look dishonest.

The ethics complaint accuses Donahoe of possible obstruction of justice and hostility to courtroom staff, according to the Arizona Republic. The complaint says Donahoe’s ruling in the courtroom officer’s case was “bizarre and inappropriate” and he appears to be biased against the sheriff’s office. It also criticizes him for rulings in an ...
At the end of 2020, Boies Schiller Flexner employed around 200 lawyers. Previously it employed just over 300. It boasts a high-powered client list including Facebook, American Express, Chevron, Delta, Barclays, Oracle and Sony. The firm, founded in 1997, has offices in New York, Miami, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Los Angeles and London.
Another leader might soon be out the door: Harrison, who recently stepped down as deputy chair. Boies once said Harrison, who is based in London and is also a managing partner, was in line to be his successor. People familiar with the situation said Harrison could now end up leaving Boies Schiller.
Harrison was one of many Boies Schiller leaders and firm employees who were disturbed by the original domestic abuse allegations levied against Josh Schiller, a partner at the firm and the son of Jonathan Schiller, according to people familiar with the matter.
Another Schiller son, Aaron Schiller, runs an architecture company, Schiller Projects, which has done business with the law firm. Schiller Projects designed three offices for Boies Schiller, including its new office in New York’s Hudson Yards complex and offices in San Francisco and Washington.
Boies, meanwhile, can’t seem to escape the fact that he extensively helped both Weinstein and Theranos.
