O.J. Simpson's lawyer says that he did not get a fair trial (in his recent robbery trial) in part because there were no African Americans on the jury.If everyone is equal, what does it matter? Do you feel that the lawyer is right?
The row followed Sunday’s announcement that Harry and Meghan, 39, would be calling their second child Lilibet ‘Lili’ Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.
The legal letter followed counter-briefings from Harry and Meghan through journalist ally Omid Scobie, author of their bombshell biography Finding Freedom. Mr Scobie said the couple would not have used the name Lilibet for their daughter unless the Queen had supported the move.
In fulfillment of her own vow, Hannah dedicated Samuel to the Lord’s service ( 1 Samuel 1:11, 24–28 ), and some commentators think that Paul referred to a similar practice being done in Corinth ( 1 Corinthians 7:36–38 ).
The town of Ramoth in the region of Gilead was given to the Levites, so there is a slight possibility that Jephthah was from the tribe of Levi, although Jephthah lived in Mizpah ( Judges 11:34 ). But there is a greater problem for the dedication view.
Leviticus 27:2 seems to indicate that such vows could be made: “ When a man consecrates by a vow certain persons to the Lord. ” Apparently, a man could devote his daughter to the Lord’s service in such a way. There are examples similar to this in Scripture.
There are several passages in the Old Testament that speak of the “Spirit of the Lord ” or “Spirit of God” coming upon people to perform certain actions or to say certain things, and, as will be demonstrated, these people did not always act godly during those times. 1. Balaam ( Numbers 24:2)
For example, Samson killed a lion with his bare hands ( Judges 14:6) and 1000 Philistines with a donkey’s jawbone ( Judges 15:15 ), and Gideon, along with his army of 300 men, defeated the Midianites. Despite their mighty deeds, many of these individuals acted wickedly, even after the Spirit of the Lord came upon them.
This claim misses an obvious point. Israel did not have a temple at that time. It wasn’t built until Solomon’s day. Joshua 18:1; Judges 18:31; 1 Samuel 1:7–9 reveal that the “ house of the Lord, ” “ the house of God, ” and the “ tabernacle ” were used interchangeably, and that the tabernacle was set up in Shiloh.
Rahab was a harlot. David also appears in this chapter and is elsewhere called a man after God’s own heart ( Acts 13:22; cf. 1 Samuel 13:14 ), yet he committed adultery with Bathsheba, tried to cover it up, and then arranged for the murder of her husband.
Josef told his wife (and Elisabeth’s mother) Rosemarie that their daughter had run away from home. Down in the dungeon, he forced Elisabeth to write Rosemarie letters, which he would mail home from post offices around the country. He also began raping her almost immediately after her imprisonment.
That sexual slavery carried long-term consequences that ultimately exposed the crime. Elisabeth conceived seven children during that time. One died three days after birth; Josef incinerated his remains in the basement furnace.
In some ways, Josef Fritzl’s criminal behavior was the repetition of family history: His grandfather was married to a woman who couldn’t conceive children. Because of this, the grandfather would have affairs with other women, then would coerce his wife into adopting the children they bore.
But before she could leave, he held an ether-soaked rag over her mouth, rendering her unconscious. For 24 years , Josef imprisoned Elisabeth in that windowless basement. When she finally emerged in 2008, the story of his sadism shocked the world.
David Finkelhor, a professor of Sociology at the University of New Hampshire and the Director of the Crimes Against Children Research Center, says that cases of family imprisonment cases “fall into three of four buckets.”.
Three times Samson replied by lying to her, but the fourth time he told the truth. After the first three times, when the Philistines suddenly appeared on the scene after Delilah had bound him, one would expect Samson to be aware that Delilah was allied with the Philistines.
So what exactly did young Salome do to entertain her audience? Admittedly the rich did sometimes indulge in some pretty salacious entertainment that sometimes involved children, but it is possible that Salome’s dance was amusing and endearing rather than erotic. Moreover, the word for “dance” ( orcheomai) used in verses Matthew 14:6 and Mark 6:22 can refer to children at play. So it is possible that Salome was playing in an amusing way to entertain her audience, and was not just dancing. [6]
This is the passage where Josephus provides the name of Herodias’s daughter. But Herodias, their sister, was married to Herod [Herod Philip I] , the son of Herod the Great, who was born of Mariamne, the daughter of Simon the high priest, who had a daughter, Salome; after whose birth Herodias took upon her to confound the laws of our country, ...
