Can I first just begin this review off by stating how much I absolutely love Ms. Isaacson and all the hard work that she puts in each of her novels? She is truly magnificent and each of her stories holds a piece of her heart as she continues to share more and more of herself with her devoted readers.

It dramatizes the beginning of his career, his travels with equally legendary bull rider Tuff Hedeman (Stephen Baldwin) and his untimely death. It has a strong story, good acting, and some great rodeo scenes. Look out for a young Renee Zellweger, who has a small part as one of the "buckle bunnies" in a motel scene. Scored 31 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Also stars Melinda Dillon, Molly Ringwald, Keifer Sutherland, and Daryl Hannah. Written by James Redford.
Cowboy Way (1994) "The Cowboy Way" is a goofy, comedic rodeo movie, starring Kiefer Sutherland and Woody Harrelson, about two New Mexico cowboys who go to New York to save a friend. It’s light on rodeo action and does reinforce some stereotypes about cowboys, so not to everyone's taste, but it does include some laughs.
"My Heroes" is a good rodeo movie about bull rider H.D. Dalton (Scott Glenn) who returns to his former life after suffering an injury on the circuit, and discovers that his family farm is in danger. He meets up with a former flame (Kate Capshaw) and tries to get his life back together. Also stars the famous stunt rider Ben Johnson as H.D.'s father, who needs rescuing from a nursing home. The film has some good rodeo action, and the scenes with the barrel bull are great. Directed by Stuart Rosenberg and written by Joel Don Humphreys. Scored 33 percent Fresh by Rotten Tomatoes.
It’s a fantastic look at the reality of a rodeo cowboy's life. If you don't see any other rodeo movie, see this one. Directed by Arthur Elgort, who interviewed members of Ford's family to get an idea of what his demanding career was like.
He rode sheep in his diapers, and full-grown horses solo by three and a half. He met his best friend, Lane Scott, when they were toddlers; as they grew up, they straddled bulls and saddle broncs. Lane was the star. “He was a badass,” says Jandreau. Both figured they’d turn pro and bet their futures on eight seconds astride a bucking bronco; Lane’s injury in a car accident sidelined that particular dream. But Brady kept going for the brass ring. “You could be heading home with a gold buckle and a pile of money – or you could be going home with a broken leg,” he says. “I would truly risk my life to keep doing what I love.”
When he woke up the second time, he looked around for his girlfriend, Terri, and proposed. That’s where Zhao found her start for The Rider, with the “crazy-ass dreams” a horse cloaked in shadows that her collaborator had in the hospital. The stapled scar on his head is real.
(Zhao’s hunch paid off: He has an amazing screen presence, though the young man isn’t actively pursuing any more acting gigs.) And thanks to the movie, the now-22-year- old Jandreau can claim to have done a lot of living in the two years and some change since his accident. He married Terri (who has a small, compelling cameo in the film), walked La Croisette in France, traveled around the United States promoting the film and started his own breeding business, Jandreau Performance Horses. He also had a daughter, Tawnee Bay, who swayed on a stuffed pony when she was 10 days old.
For six months, as the plates in his head fused, Jandreau wasn’t even supposed to jog. Instead, he was on a horse in two weeks. “After my head injury, I was, like, bipolar, an emotional wreck,” he admits. Still, Zhao prodded him to concentrate on, and control his feelings. Jandreau may have been struggling.

Nesbitt wrote the eulogies for these horses which were soon after interred in the gardens at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. Arthur Shoemaker is a native of Laredo, Texas. After attending school at Texas Technological College in Lubbock and serving in the U.S. Eighth Air Force during World War II, he taught school in the Sapulpa, Oklahoma school system for several years. Later, he was employed by Texaco and worked in the oil business in Kansas and Oklahoma. As an avocation, Shoemaker pursued historical research and writing, focusing on western and Oklahoma subjects. Shoemaker has been published in a variety of publications including, The Chronicles of Oklahoma , True West , Oklahoma Today, Ketch Pen, and the Tulsa Tribune. He is a member of the Western Writers of America, the Rodeo Historical Society, and the Osage County Historical Society.
The photographs in this collection are of Bill Pickett, well-known African-American bulldogger of the early rodeo. The collection is open for viewing, but we are not allowed to duplicate them in any manner because they originate from another collection not associated with the Museum.

In 1962, Verne Elliott at the age of 71 died from a heart attack while working in the pasture of his St. Vrain Ranch near the same town he was born, Platteville, Colorado. The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum inducted Verne Elliott into the Rodeo Hall of Fame in 1973, for being a rodeo producer and livestock contractor.
Verne Elliott was born on the family’s homestead ranch in Platteville, Colorado, on July 4, 1890. Elliott’s grandfather left Kentucky in 1852 on his way to California but ended up settling down and building his homestead in Colorado. Elliott’s father, Jackson, was a cattleman, cowboy, and at one time sheriff of Weld County. Verne went to grade school in Greeley and Manual High School in Denver, but at 16 decided to withdraw from school and pursue the cowboy and rodeo business. His father didn’t argue, but said “he had better be good at it.”
