The Blacklist season 9 finale will see Harold Cooper ( Harry Lennix) and Raymond Reddington ( James Spader) at odds. In an exclusive clip from the episode, above, the two fight over Red's lawyer, who was recently exposed for being responsible for Elizabeth Keen's (Megan Boone) death.
Though “failure” is not a word often used to describe Red’s schemes, his attempt at escaping from prison during Friday’s Blacklist was, in the end, an unmitigated disaster. Just as he was walking out of the prison doors (having masterfully disguised himself as the facility’s warden), Red was captured by numerous guards and locked up once again.

Afterwards, Reddington gets arrested in New York after 30 years on the run and faces the death penalty. Liz reveals that she is responsible for the tip that led to Red's arrest.
This episode's Blacklister is a drifter named Gregory Devry (Jake Weber). He spends the entire episode claiming to be the real Raymond Reddington. Whether he is or isn't is not revealed toward the end, but what makes this episode so fascinating is that there is a doubt.
THE NEXT TARGET ON THE BLACKLIST IS A MAN WHO PROTECTS THE GUILTY BY PREYING ON THE INNOCENT – Red informs the team that “The Alchemist” - a man who relies upon science to transform a person's DNA - has been contracted to protect a well-known mob informant and his wife.
Is The Blacklist Based On A True Story? 'The Blacklist' is partly based on a true story. To be more specific, this crime thriller series is inspired by an infamous Boston-based supercriminal, James Joseph “Whitey” Bulger, who was convicted for his involvement in 11 murders, among other things.
It's revealed that the woman Reddington killed is not in fact the real Katarina Rostova but a woman named Tatiana Petrova who was assigned by Dom long ago to play the part of Katarina so that he and Ilya Koslov could fake her death, thus protecting the real Katarina.
Plan in motion, Red turns over Gregory Devry/Fred to the Shell Island gang with the final proof of his imposter/informant status being his FBI wire, and kills him (he was about to die from stomach cancer, so he was cool with it).
Meera was revealed to be the mole in the twelfth episode, "The Alchemist". The following episode ("The Cyprus Agency") she reveals she was acting under orders of Cooper, who had her leak blue prints of the "Post Office" on the pretense of a security upgrade.
Meera Malik was a protagonist in The Blacklist. An agent of the Central Intelligence Agency, Meera is brought onto the Raymond Reddington case at the request of Diane Fowler.
And that man is Alan Alda (playing the later-named Mr. Fitch)!
Each criminal's name correlates with a number and every episode focuses on that criminal's story and capture (or otherwise). The numbers appear out of order with, seemingly, no rhyme o reason. When Red turns himself into the FBI after evading capture for years, he offers this “black” list in exchange for immunity.
2/23/22 update: The Blacklist has been renewed for a 10th season on NBC.
This is largely down to James Spader's performance as The Blacklist's Raymond Reddington and he shares great chemistry with Boone up until Liz's season 8 death.
In court, he openly mocks Officer Baldwin, the police officer who gave him the allegedly illegal pat-down. Baldwin testifies that his dispatcher informed the unit that a call had come in about a man in a tan suit and hat who was carrying a gun, and Reddington matched that description.
While the Post Office investigates the swirl of American Apparel models that recently entered Timothy’s life, Red is finally resuming the trial to prove that he was unreasonably searched, resulting in the finding of his illegal firearm that would mean be violated his immunity agreement with the FBI…but first, Dembe!
Raymond Reddington may have just lost his last chance at avoiding trial for multiple capital offenses, but his fate isn’t exactly sealed yet. It’s already snuggly inside the envelope, sure — but as Dembe told his boss following some pre-verdict good fortune, “Sometimes you make your own fate, and sometimes fate makes you.”.
Reddington pled guilty not because he gave up, but to protect the task force. One of the reasons he pled guilty was to make sure all they’ve done over the past six years doesn’t come out in the press and expose everyone who’s been involved and at his side.
James has often said that Reddington’s a character who realizes he may die at any moment. A lot of his zest for life and enthusiasm and humor comes from being at peace with the idea that he knows he could go at any moment. That’s now put to the test, and not in a desperate way where he’s scrambling.
It seems Raymond Reddington should have watched The Shawshank Redemption once more before attempting his own jailbreak. Though “failure” is not a word often used to describe Red’s schemes, his attempt at escaping from prison during Friday’s Blacklist was, in the end, an unmitigated disaster. Just as he was walking out of ...
After tracking down the head of the group that had both their diamonds and the Witness Protection list stolen by the Harem and a mystery party, respectively, Liz uses the diamonds as leverage to find out how the list was stolen. They get a name: Mega-hacker Jack Heldridge.
Liz accuses Red of using the FBI to get this list because he wanted someone’s name off it. So, it’s time for Red’s Story Corner: Years ago, there was a Wisconsin housewife who, thanks to her aging dog’s overactive bladder, witnessed a body being dragged out of a neighbor’s house.
She steals Margot’s stolen-stolen-diamonds and leaves a note telling her to meet her in the lobby. The FBI has found a former accomplice of Margot’s who’s willing to help Liz in exchange for getting his brother out of prison early.
Raymond Reddington has a pet in MI6, too. And not like he had Samar as a helpful Mossad spy. No, Emma Knightly was plucked out of junior analyst obscurity; she was groomed; she was made to feel special, like the center of Raymond Reddington’s universe.
And Lizzie successfully infiltrates a crime ring despite having publicly killed the attorney general of the United States, taken an extended stay on the FBI’s Most Wanted List, and received a pardon from the president-elect.
At least not by Margot, who’s taken into FBI custody when Liz alerts them to where she’ll be headed after the failed mission. The FBI doesn’t know where Emma will be heading — but Reddington does.
Thriller. Shortly after Raymond Reddington has escaped execution by lethal injection with lit’rally 10 seconds to spare, he explains to his almost-executioner, “People make their own luck, some more than others — I make a prodigious amount.”. Later, though, he tells returning Blacklister Bastien Moreau that the best cons are something more akin ...
So when the FBI invades Miles’ apartment with a flash grenade, Samar’s vision immediately blurs, and though she’s unable to get her bearings, she continues through the apartment…. And she’s the first to spot Moreau, who has the USB dossier in his hand and a gun pointed at Miles.
So yes, Reddington does narrowly escape death, but Anna McMahan makes sure Red stands very little chance of actually finding the assassin during his stay. He’s only granted 48 hours, he has to do it in secret because the public believes he’s still in prison, and he has to wear an ankle monitor to track his every move.
March 22, 2019, 7:00 PM. The Blacklist recap: Season 6, Episode 12. Shortly after Raymond Reddington has escaped execution by lethal injection with lit’rally 10 seconds to spare, he explains to his almost-executioner, “People make their own luck, some more than others — I make a prodigious amount.”. Later, though, he tells returning Blacklister ...
And once they’ve staged an elaborate breakout from prison to explain why Red wasn’t executed to the public, it all done: Raymond Reddington is back on the top of the FBI’s Most Wanted list, the assistant attorney general of the United States is plotting against her own country, and we have a new big bad.
In a brief window of mental clarity, Rodrick whispered “General Shiro” to Red, which eventually led to Dr. Nikola, the guy who was infesting people’s bodies with beetles and ultimately haunting my dreams forever and ever. In Nikola’s files, Dembe discovered that he’d sent his bug toxin to an address in London belonging to Moreau. Inside that apartment, Dembe found files that showed Moreau wired $5 million to the Cryptobanker. And in the last episode, we found out that money was then laundered to Jonas Kruger in exchange for giving Moreau his credentials to gain access to Ava Ziegler’s hotel room, wheeeeeere…
It all started with Bastien Moreau, a.k.a. the Corsican, the assassin the FBI stopped from bombing the U.N.

Reddington will cooperate only with Elizabeth Keen (Megan Boone ), a rookie FBI profiler who we see in the first episode, has trouble profiling just herself. However, Keen is not too keen on the idea.
He eventually went so far as to kidnap Timothy to keep him away from his mother, for which he was disbarred and sentenced to 7-10 years at Federal Correctional Institution, Cumberland.
Eventually Gerard manages to negotiate a deal where Liz is exonerated publically for all but the Tom Connolly murder as Liz killed him in front of witnesses and it wasn't in self-defense. Instead, Laurel offers a plea of involuntary manslaughter with 3 years probation.
When Red puts together a team to exonerate Liz, he calls in Gerard as part of that team. Gerard helps them plan on how to kidnap Peter Kotsiopulos. Once they have the Director, Red demands Laurel Hitchin exonerate Liz in exchange for Red not taking the Director to the Hague and sends in Gerard to discuss the terms of the deal with Laurel. Gerard privately talks to Red and convinces him to take the deal as it will keep Liz safe and out of prison and is better than Gerard expected them to get. Gerard later presents the deal to Liz who reluctantly signs it as she will no longer able to be an FBI agent though she can remain on the task force in a similar capacity to Red. Thanks to Gerard's deal, Liz is later able to walk free.
