I-485 Green Card in Hand!

I received my green card in hand about a week ago! I wanted to share my timeline and some tips. I filed in December, 2020 and the field office assigned was Los Angeles.

What is the point of EAD and AP?

Why is a formal EAD and AP application required when someone is adjusting status? Why couldn't receipt notices be used for employment and valid until the underlying I-485 is either approved or denied? Why does someone even require advanced approval to leave the country or risk their application being considered abandoned?
