Springsteenâs first two records didnât set the world on fire. Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J. and The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle sold about 200,000 copies a piece -- not bad numbers, but not great either. Itâs with 1975âs Born to Run that the negative factors of Springsteenâs early contract become apparent.
When he wasnât on tour with the E Street Band, Springsteen was in a court in New York fighting for his life. During the case he argued for the necessity of Landau to be in the studio, saying:
