And it was because Rebecca went into the Keating manor to hunt for evidence that Sam's murder happened in the first place. So, in retrospect, Nate was somewhat responsible for setting the wheels in motion.
Nate Lahey first appeared in season 1 as Annalise's boyfriend outside of marriage. But very soon he turned out to be something of her punching bag, the person she could throw under the bus without batting so much as an eyelid. Yet, after all that, the two continued to share a complicated relationship. Nate has been through a lot, from getting betrayed by Annalise to beating D.A. Miller to a pulp to snapping Xavier Castillo's neck--his character has been on quite a journey. Here are a few things about him that might have gone unnoticed.
Throughout the series, Nate has been shown getting close to women, whether A.D.As or pathologists, to find out some crucial bits of information. He flirts with them and often starts a relationship, usually as a means to an end. In the final season, he was even shown flirting with the Undersecretary of Homeland Security, who was also Tegan's ex-wife, to find out more about Tegan herself.

Annalise and Nate have had a tumultuous relationship. While it is true that Annalise has done terrible things to Nate, the way he has responded hasn't always been appropriate. In many instances, Nate has hurled harmful insults at Annalise, using her deepest insecurities against her. Annalise does not confide in many people so it is particularly vicious for Nate to then use these weaknesses against her. He has called Annalise a cancer, pathetic, unlovable, a worthless pathetic drunk, and more. It's probably best that these two just stay away from each other.
Originally, Nia summons Annalise to her hospital room and asks Annalise to help her acquire pills to end her own life. Annalise refuses and then tells Nate what happened. The first time Nate is shown with Atwood is after a fight he has with Annalise over her relationship with Eve. This likely means that Nate pursued Atwood out of anger and frustration with Annalise. Atwood was also the main antagonist for much of season 3, working to take down Annalise and the others.
With Ron just inches away from death, Nate tells Bonnie that Ron is responsible for the death of his father and Bonnie finishes off the crime. Miller's death is one of the most graphic and unsettling deaths on the show.
