Volkswagen Class Action Lawsuit Morgan and Morgan has filed a class action lawsuit against Volkswagen Group of America following the automaker's admission that it deliberately falsified pollution test results for hundreds of thousands of “clean diesel” vehicles sold in the United States.

VW has confirmed there will be no compensation for UK owners with cars affected by the emissions scandal. This is based on the fact that the fixes designed by VW are said to have no impact on the car's performance or economy and no EU laws have been broken.
Volkswagen has been widely pilloried after admitting that 11 million of its vehicles worldwide included software that allowed the carmaker to cheat on emissions tests. The lawsuits — filed by Schneiderman, Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey and Maryland Attorney General Brian E.
“Based on a projected compensation pay-out of around £8,500 per claimant, Volkswagen could have to pay up to £10.2 billion to UK customers, with the total cost of dieselgate being around €40bn."

Hanno Jelden, who prosecutors said was in charge of the development of the illegal software at the heart of the scheme, attributed the long silence over the software malfunction in part to Volkswagen's company culture, which he described as one where problems were to be solved quickly rather than analysed.
Volkswagen has since paid well over $20 billion in fines and legal settlements related to its diesel emissions cheating. Daimler admitted last year that its Mercedes-Benz cars had also been programmed to cheat on emissions tests and paid $2.2 billion as part of a settlement with U.S. authorities.
According to the EPA, this means that the cars under investigation could be emitting up to 40 times the national standard for nitrogen oxide (NOx), which is linked to asthma and lung illnesses. The cars affected are 2009-2014 Jettas, Beetles, Golfs, Audi A3s, and VW Passats built from 2014-15.
