James Spader plays the role of Robert California in this comedy series. The show itself which bases its narrative on office antics and office politics, has Spader play a distinctively unlikable character – Robert is duplicitous and often has a very salacious sexual appetite.
Filmography of James Spader includes top grossing films like ‘Stargate’, ‘Wolf’ (1994) and ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ (2015); popular TV series like ‘The Practice’ and ‘The Blacklist’ (2013–present); as also box-office disappointments like ‘Crash’ and ‘Supernova’ (2000).
As other Brat Packers' careers faded away or evolved, Spader distinguished himself as the serious actor of the bunch, consistently popping up in challenging, provocative, and interesting movies, such as Sex, Lies, and Videotape, Less Than Zero, Crash, and Secretary .
The development of Shore’s character and his friendship with Denny Crane (played by William Shatner) is brought out beautifully by Spader and it comes as no surprise that Spader had the honor of winning two Primetime Emmy Awards for the same character in two different shows. 8. The Blacklist
The ratings slowly declined each successive year and last season, Legal averaged 9.8 million. Though that's still a decent audience, ABC announced that season five would be the final one.
Boston Legal is one of the best takes on a TV legal drama that I have seen. It manages to mix drama and comedy pretty well for the most part and introduces us to Alan and Denny who are magnetic characters, played to perfection by James Spader and an incredible William Shatner.
Secretary is now available to stream on Netflix. On the day of her sister's wedding, Lee Holloway (Maggie Gyllenhaal) is released from a mental institution. A serial cutter and self-mutilator since the age of 12, Lee's grip on reality is only so-so.
Not long after they cross paths at an art gallery, Ray Reardon (James Spader), an architect, and hypnotically sensual Lena (Madchen Amick) are married with children. Only then does Ray catch his wife in escalating lies, which lead him to find out that Lena's past is invented and that she has been manipulating him ever since their first "chance" meeting. In the ensuing turmoil, Lena ends up with Ray's money, and he winds up in an institution -- from which he plots his return and revenge.Dream Lover / Film synopsis
Boston Legal's sexist trappings seemed, at first, to fall within its era's norms for both society and television. The show's men were older, smarmier, and a touch out of shape; the women around them were invariably young and gorgeous. But the show didn't stop there.
One thing that came from the show is the friendship that developed between Spader and Boston Legal co-star, William Shatner. Just don't expect them to hang out together very often.

Crash has a unique and original premise as it has a cast of characters who are obsessed with the danger they feel being involved in or seeing car crashes. 7 Pretty in Pink (1986) - 77%. One of the most iconic teen rom-coms of the '80s, this one starred Brat Pack actors like Molly Ringwald and Andrew McCarthy, along with Spader in a supporting role. He played Steff McKee in this coming-of-age film, the wealthy and arrogant kid who liked to bully and harass others.
Jack's Back is about a string of killings that mimic the Jack the Ripper killings and the police suspect a doctor (Spader) is responsible for the copycat murders.
Spader had a small role as Roger Barnes, who was related to one of the senior partners at a corporate law firm and was integral in influencing some of the bad decisions stockbroker Bud Fox (Sheen) made in the film. Fox eventually joined forces with a wealthy and ruthless corporate raider named Gordon Gekko (Douglas).

PG-13. 27. 4. Steven Spielberg's Lincoln takes you back in time to watch the making of a historic moment as the US President gets the House of Representatives to pass the Thirteenth Amendment to the US Constitution which abolished slavery. As: Cast.

Just as Fox begins to earn huge amounts of money by participating in shady deals, Gekko targets the employees' retirement fund of the airlines where Fox's father worked for 24 years.
9. Crash (1996) Crash is a 1996 psychological thriller film which tells the story of a TV director who gets into a serious car accident. He then discovers an underground sub-culture of car-crash victims, for whom a car collision is a sexual turn-on, and it gives them a jotting life force which they come to crave.
The Office. James Spader plays the role of Robert California in this comedy series. The show itself which bases its narrative on office antics and office politics, has Spader play a distinctively unlikable character – Robert is duplicitous and often has a very salacious sexual appetite.
While the previous show sees Alan Shore hiring Crane, Poole and Schmidt to represent him in a wrongful termination suit, this show starts with Alan and his paralegal friend Tara hired in Crane Poole and Schmidt as an associate and a paralegal respectively. James Spader of course reprises his role as Alan Shore and appears in 101 episodes throughout the series. Spader as I have discussed earlier was born to play this role and Shore matches Spader’s niche acting techniques – a lascivious character who enjoys making others uncomfortable but is deeply humane, deeply compassionate. The development of Shore’s character and his friendship with Denny Crane (played by William Shatner) is brought out beautifully by Spader and it comes as no surprise that Spader had the honor of winning two Primetime Emmy Awards for the same character in two different shows.
Spader doesn’t himself appear in the movie and it goes to speak volumes about his skills since he moderates and pitches his voice perfectly at all times to make Ultron the intimidating villain that opposes the Avengers. There is a kind of final fatality surrounding Ultron and Spader brings it out wonderfully.
White Palace. This film is a romantic drama that came out in 1990 where James Spader plays the protagonist Max Baron opposite Susan Sarandon’s Nora Baker. While the film was well received Spader’s role as Baron remains a startling aspect.
James Spader is an extremely talented actor who often passes unnoticed and is underrated because he doesn’t have a lot of mainstream movies under his belt. However, Spader who has a rather distinctive screen presence, is a joy to watch and his versatility is brought out through the many movies and television shows that he has acted in.
Ethically-challenged attorney Alan Shore, formerly of Young, Frutt & Berluti, settles in at a wealthy and powerful firm focusing on civil cases. With some help from his friend and mentor, veteran attorney Denny Crane, Shore quickly makes his mark winning cases no one would take, often using less than honest methods.
During the series, whenever Denny Crane (William Shatner) opens his cell phone, it makes the same sound effect as the communicators from the original "Star Trek" series in which he played the role of Captain James T. Kirk.
What was the official certification given to Boston Legal (2004) in France?

Spader was born on February 7, 1960 in Boston, Massachusetts, and is the youngest of three children. His parents, Jean ( née Fraser) and Stoddard ("Todd") Greenwood Spader, were both teachers. He has had over 40 years in the acting industry and garnered several major awards, like multiple Emmys and a Cannes Film Festival award, and Spader has been nominated for everything from a Screen Actors Guild Award to an Independent Spirit Award. Currently, Spader has been gaining a new generation of fans with his role as Red on The Blacklist.
Jack Is Back (1988) Someone is killing young women like famed serial killer Jack the Ripper. It’s the 100-year anniversary, so the killer is honoring him by murdering women just like Jack the Ripper did. John Westford (James Spader) is a young doctor who discovers the murderer and is then killed himself.
The two get over their initial differences and become best friends. As adults, Tim becomes an attorney and Peter seeks a political career. True Colors shows Peter’s ambitions turn him into a power-hungry, corrupt man. He’ll step on anyone to get to the top, including Tim.
In the film, Americans open a portal to another planet inhabited by humans and an alien who took over a human body. Kurt Russell plays Colonel Jonathan “Jack” O’Neil who leads the mission. Spader plays Daniel Jackson, an archaeologist and linguist who finds the keys to open the Stargate portal.
John Westford (James Spader) is a young doctor who discovers the murderer and is then killed himself. His twin brother senses his death and goes on a quest to find his killer. Jack is Back is an interesting role for Spader, because it was still early in his career. It’s also fascinating to see him play twins.
Unlike Spader’s many bad guy-ish roles, Rip (in my opinion) isn’t that bad of a guy. Yes, he’s a drug dealer and forces people into prostitution, but he’s actually pretty fair with Julian until he’s had enough. He also tries to warn Clay to just stay away from his old classmates who are now drug dependent youths.
Getty Images. James Spader broke out as a movie star in the mid-1980s, but before that, he honed his chops with guest-star work on TV shows. After Pretty in Pink came out, he focused mostly on films, as Hollywood was still a stratified place where there were camps of "TV actors" and "movie actors" that rarely mingled.
Known for playing odd characters, Spader himself is reputedly a bit strange, which can affect a professional work environment and lead to a lack of repeat business with the same producers and directors. For one thing, he doesn't like to watch people eat. "Our craft service table was located near the stage entrance, so he had to avoid walking by and watching people licking their fingers or spreading butter on a bagel," his Boston Legal co-star William Shatner told Rolling Stone . During a shoot for The Blacklist, Spader insisted that his character would spend days hiding out in a synagogue, which required major rewrites and reworking the shooting schedule.
Actors do what they do because they're artists, and portraying as many different characters as possible drives them. But once many actors receive a certain character type and execute it well, it seems like they only ever play those individuals, and then they wind up typecast. Not only do they not get to stretch their creative muscles, but they wind up not getting offers to play other roles ... or their specialty if such parts aren't up for grabs. This could be the fate of James Spader .
After a few smaller roles in movies and TV shows in the early 1980s, James Spader made a name for himself and carved out a silver screen niche as a portrayer of aloof, good-looking, and often slimy malcontents and ne'er-do-wells. In 1986, he portrayed slimy rich teen villain Steff in Pretty in Pink, leading to a long association with ...
Unlike some of his Brat Pack comrades, Spader never really weathered a sex scandal or was a "celebrity" in the tabloid-selling, gossipy sense of the world. "My personal life is not for public consumption," he has stated in several interviews when questioned about it.
But the entertainment industry evolved, and TV started to offer projects and roles as prestigious as the film world could. In 2003, Spader joined the cast of the acclaimed ABC legal drama The Practice as attorney Alan Shore, a role he'd play until 2004, when The Practice became Boston Legal, essentially a vehicle for Spader .
During a shoot for The Blacklist, Spader insisted that his character would spend days hiding out in a synagogue, which required major rewrites and reworking the shooting schedule. On the set of Secretary, he shared a trailer with co-star Maggie Gyllenhaal, their dressing rooms separated by a flimsy wall.
