Dennis and Dee are fraternal twins. Despite usually fighting with each other they are very codependent and alike. Both delusional, with Dennis believing he is a "golden god" and Dee believing she is a successful actress, they are both greedy, superficial, and believe they are of a higher class since they grew up rich, since they both went to college and studied psychology …
They're about to really test them out by throwing them at Dee when they are interrupted by a jubilant Frank coming in, announcing that Dennis and Dee's mother is "dead as disco," killed by a "botched neck lift." He pops open a bottle of champagne to celebrate.

The "BADNEW" tattoo Charlie gives himself in his apartment can be seen on his arm for the rest of the series.
When Frank decides to put the gang on 'Charlie Work' instead of Charlie, they get furious and try to change that. Since Charlie is now manager, the gang does various favors to get out of it. And at the same time Mac banged Dennis' mom and Dennis wants to get back at him by trying to bang Macs mom. — James Hake
When Frank ( Danny DeVito 's character) is having dinner with his old sweetheart at the upscale restaurant, he makes a pass at the waitress. The waitress, Jenny, was played by Danny Devito's real-life daughter Lucy DeVito.
The Gang Goes Jihad. Mac Bangs Dennis' Mom. Dennis and Dee Get a New Dad. Barbara Reynolds (née Landgraf) was the mother of Dennis Reynolds and Dee Reynolds, and the ex-wife of Frank Reynolds .
Frank tricks Dennis and Dee into revealing their mother's corpse to get revenge on Dee for stealing his money. This causes Dennis to feel emotions again. (" Charlie's Mom Has Cancer ")
She originally dumped Dennis and Dee's biological father Bruce Mathis and married Frank because she thought Frank was richer than Bruce and because Bruce was more generous as he gave his money to charities. Bruce had in fact inherited a large fortune from his father when he died.
Alternate title for 7th Season episode " Frank's Pretty Woman " says "Frank's New Whore Wife" - it's a straight hint to Barbara. According to Frank, initially Barbara was carrying triplets in her womb at the time, and the third one was supposed to be called Donnie, but Dennis and Dee " devoured him before he could be born ".
Frank started a company with his partner, and stole all the money from his partner. ("A Very Sunny Christmas") Barbara tricked Frank into raising the twins because she thought he was wealthier than their biological father, Bruce Mathis. ("Dennis and Dee Get a New Dad")
When the gang is trapped in the room on the cruise ship and are about to drown to death, Dennis tells Dee that he loves her, to which Dee replies: "Whatever." and sinks to her presumed death. ( The Gang Goes to Hell: Part Two)
In Sweet Dee's Dating a Retarded Person, Dennis repeatedly attempts to convince Dee that her current boyfriend is intellectually disabled. When Dee can no longer fight the seeds of doubt Dennis has planted in her mind and breaks up with Lil' Kevin, Dennis tells her that he was only saying it to mess with her because he thought it'd be funny. Once Dee has stormed off however, Dennis reveals to Mac that he lied and does genuinely believe Kevin is "totally retarded".
When Dee and Dennis get an email from Bruce Mathis claiming to be their real dad, the set up a dinner with Frank and their mom to confirm that Frank is their biological dad. They confront Frank, who shows up early, saying they need to talk to him about something. Frank misunderstands and accuses them of "banging each other" and that it is "perverted". ( Dennis and Dee Get a New Dad)
They are the fraternal twins of Barbara Reynolds and Bruce Mathis, raised by Frank Reynolds. Dennis and Dee appeared to get along when they were kids, Dee being Frank's favorite and Dennis obviously was their mother's favorite. They went to Jersey Shore multiply times on vacation and remember loving it, they went to a Nazi training camp together with their grand father, and both hated Frank for when he would buy all the things they wanted for himself on Christmas.
Dennis asks Bruce to pronounce Dee and Frank man and wife one more time, so he can get a closeup. Bruce asks for the camera—and as soon as he gets it he says he's going to give The Lawyer the tape to show that Dennis has violated the will and should have the house taken away.
Frank 's ex-wife Barbara dies, leaving behind a big inheritance that Frank and Dee will do anything to get. Meanwhile, Mac, Dennis, and Charlie use Reynolds house as a men's club to make new male friends.
Mac wants the flier to be in the shape of a beer mug, but they decide in the end to go with a bicep. They go to a sporting goods store to start handing out their flier. Dennis compliments a guy on some pants he's going to buy, and hands him the flier...which has ended up looking like a penis.
Frank apologizes to Dee that the grift failed, and Dee says she's still planning on getting the jewels, so Frank tells her "I'll go get the shovels.".
Charlie is showing Mac and Dennis a set of knives he bought from an "old magician". They're about to really test them out by throwing them at Dee when they are interrupted by a jubilant Frank coming in, announcing that Dennis and Dee's mother is "dead as disco," killed by a "botched neck lift.".
Charlie refers to the flier as the "dick flier", apparently thinking that was what they were going for with it. Dee and Frank wait for Bruce to come back with the money. Frank, who has burned the clothes he was wearing when Bruce hugged him, is squeezed into one of Dee's track suits.
After Dee and Frank storm out, Dennis remains behind to give The Lawyer a fist bump to thank him for the house. After her leaves, The Lawyer settles back into his seat, obviously rattled by what has just happened. Frank goes to Dee's apartment, saying he has a plan to get back at Barbara.
Ernie ( David Zdunich) is the "Barfly" who is commonly seen in the background in the bar. He is in every single episode that is shot in the bar, but he is noticed in the episode "Paddy's Pub: The Worst Bar in Philadelphia." handing over the paper to the "gang" for them to see the journalist's article as well as "Sweet Dee is Dating a Retarded Person" in which he sets up Mac, Frank and Charlie's band equipment. David Zdunich died in 2009. A portrait of Ernie (David) is hung behind the bar in memoriam.
Mac is Charlie's childhood friend and Dennis' high school friend and later roommate. He is a co-owner of Paddy's Pub and its bouncer. He brags about his incredible hand-to-hand combat skills, strength, and general athletic ability though it is quite obvious he lacks any real skill or even a proper sense of balance.
Rex also appears briefly in the season 9 episode "The Gang Saves the Day" as an angel in part of Mac's fantasy.
Ryan and Liam later reappear in the episode "The Gang Squashes Their Beef" as part of an ensemble invited to Dennis and Mac's apartment to make amends for past transgressions.
Luther McDonald ( Luther Mac) ( Gregory Scott Cummins) is Mac's father and a convicted felon. He is tall, has numerous tattoos, and never blinks resulting in a very intimidating appearance. Out of fear, he is one of the few people The Gang does not immediately try to manipulate or exploit. The warm and gentle Bonnie Kelly is attracted to Luther's aloof behavior and criminal past. In his first appearance ("Dennis and Dee Get a New Dad"), he attempts to get Mac and Charlie (who have come to visit him in prison to bond with him) to smuggle heroin into the prison in their rectums. In "Dennis Looks Like a Registered Sex Offender", he is out on parole and convinces Mac to help him "take care of some people" he has listed, including former witnesses in his trial and the judge who sentenced him. Charlie and Mac become convinced that he is using them as drivers while making the rounds to murder the people on his list (similar to the movie Collateral) and try to get Luther sent back to prison. They fail to do so and Mac is initially relieved when Luther is arrested for violating the parole on his own. However, Mac is horrified to learn that Luther was apologizing to the people on his list and didn't harm any of them, and his parole violation occurred when Luther made proscribed plane reservations to leave the state and take Mac and Charlie to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Luther calmly tells Mac he had no plans to hurt him before, but once he gets out of prison again, he's definitely going to murder him and Charlie. When he is paroled anew, Mac and Charlie fake their deaths to escape what they believe is his unstoppable wrath. Luther forgives Mac for this in a note where he tells his son that he loves him and always had and to stay away from him for the rest of their lives. In "Mac Kills His Dad", Luther is the suspect in the beheading of a state official. Mac learns that the murder was committed by Luther's presumed lover Eduardo Sanchez and reveals this to Bill Ponderosa who goes to the police intending to confess the crime himself, but decides at the last minute to rat on Eduardo. This leads to the other inmates in the jail to think Luther is the rat and it is implied that Luther is attacked by the other inmates as a result. When Mac finally comes out of the closet to Luther in the Season 12 finale when Mac does an elaborate ballet performance for the jail inmates, Luther is visibly angry and walks out of the room without any words.
Cricket is given his own storyline in the Season 12 episode "A Cricket's Tale ".

Mac learns that the murder was committed by Luther's presumed lover Eduardo Sanchez and reveals this to Bill Ponderosa who goes to the police intending to confess the crime himself, but decides at the last minute to rat on Eduardo.
The Gang mistook The Lawyer for having personal involvement as the executor of Barbara Reynolds 's will even though he had never met her. ("Dennis and Dee's Mom Is Dead") .
He represented a family whom Frank is trying to force out of their house. After Charlie made an attempt to prove that he's more legally apt than the actual Lawyer, Charlie challenged The Lawyer to a duel. He immediately accepted, claiming to have a loaded gun in his office desk. ("The Gang Exploits the Mortgage Crisis")
The Lawyer's character returns in Season 11 , where he is seen representing Liam McPoyle in his lawsuit against Bill Ponderosa, for the destruction caused by Bill's drugging of the milk at McPoyle's wedding. It seems that the Lawyer's hatred of the Gang has only grown stronger and more pre-occupying to him since his last appearance. Despite greeting the Gang with an air of confidence (after once again reminding Frank that he is not Jewish), and assuring them that he relishes the idea of 'crushing them', he becomes visibly upset on the courtroom floor when describing his past relations to the Gang, and their toll on his personal life, [blaming them for the failure of his marriage (s)]. In an endeavor to discredit him, Dee attempts to prove he is lying about not being Jewish by dramatically revealing that she found a distant ancestor of his with a Jewish surname. The trial predictably descends into chaos, leaving the Lawyer maimed by Royal McPoyle, a Poconos Swallow that Pappy McPoyle keeps under his hat. At the behest of his handler, Royal swoops at the Lawyer, gouging his right eye, potentially blinding him (although it is yet to be seen if these injuries are permanent). While these events do reinforce Charlie's 'bird-law' legal strategy, the overall pandemonium (supplemented by Dennis playing with the 'cat' Maureen Ponderosa) in the courtroom convinces the judge to throw out the case, leaving the Lawyer defeated, disfigured, and enraged. ("McPoyle vs. Ponderosa: The Trial of the Century")
About. The Lawyer went to Harvard for law school. ("The Gang Exploits the Mortgage Crisis") He had a lovely wife, but at some point she decided to leave him. Their divorce process was very emotionally turbulent for The Lawyer because he was still very much in love with her.

Job. The Lawyer (aka The Jew Lawyer) is an attorney who has had several run-ins with the Gang. Like The Waitress, his real name is unknown, and he is not actually Jewish. The Lawyer has a strong dislike for the gang. He often uses his sharp intellect and knowledge of the law against them.
When Dee countered Dennis's insults by claiming that he has a "fat face," it triggered his anorexia to the point of not eating for three days ("The Gang Exploits A Miracle") .
Arguably the most depraved member of the Gang, Dennis routinely destroys others' property and casually mentions committing disturbing acts of violence which include (but are not limited to): Dennis vandalized Art Sloan's house, and set his yard on fire ("The Gang Reignites the Rivalry").
They then live in Dennis and Mac's apartment together until season 9, putting them at around fifteen years living together. Dennis briefly lived with a European roommate while Mac was pretending to be dead, and he lived with Maureen for a few days when they were married. Mac and Dennis moved in to Dee's apartment after their apartment burned down in " The Gang Squashes Their Beefs " and they are still living there after living in the suburbs for one month. ("Mac & Dennis Move to the Suburbs") As a result of a bet they made with Frank that they could not last a month in the suburbs, he, Mac, and Dee have to sleep with an old man (known only as Old Black Man) for a year. By Season 12, their old apartment has been rebuilt and refurnished to it's original design, which disturbs Dennis, except Mac's bedroom only contains the Ass Pounder 4000; he expected them to share Dennis' room. Dennis later elects to leave the Gang and Paddy's to move to North Dakota and take on his responsibilities as a father to Brian Jr ( Dennis' Double Life ). He later returns to his old living situation.
Later in this episode he tells Mac he is going to kill him when he finds out he slept with his prom date. In " The Gang Gets Stranded in the Woods ", Charlie tells Dennis he reminds Charlie of a serial killer, which Dennis takes as a compliment.
There was an incident in his childhood when Dennis killed four crows in a row in front of Dee (" Making Dennis Reynolds a Murderer "). It's unknown if this was an isolated occurrence or one of multiple acts of animal cruelty Dennis committed throughout his youth.
Reynolds: The Cereal Defense"). Dennis's fantasy in " The Gang Saves the Day " involves suffocating Jackie Denardo. While he is briefly married to Maureen Ponderosa, he pretends to choke her ("Dennis Gets Divorced").
Dennis is comically vain, selfish, superficial, hyper-sexual, deranged, and delusional about himself. Dennis also has an extreme temper (most notable in later seasons) and will blow up in rage whenever his image is called into question, he doesn't get what he wants, or just plain gets irritated.
