He sleeps on it. While he's asleep, his wife and young daughter eat the pie, damning them both. And then, in the novel's final moments, Halleck cuts himself a slice: a gesture that isn't as selfless as it maybe appears. 'Thinner' Was Based On Real Events - Sort Of As with many of his novels, King pulled elements from his life to create the plot of Thinner, which centers on an obese man who gets cursed to lose weight uncontrollably after he fatally drives over a Romani woman.
Cursed with Awesome: Billy Halleck is cursed to rapidly lose weight even if he consumes eight thousand calories in one day, which is awesome at first because he was originally overweight and at high risk of heart problems.
