Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump's former lawyer and fixer who pleaded guilty last year to an array of white-collar crimes, arrived at a federal prison in upstate New York on Monday to begin serving his three-year sentence Monday.
In the book, Cohen alleges that Mr Trump is "guilty of the same crimes" that landed him in prison, and calls his former boss "a cheat, a liar, a fraud, a bully, a racist, a predator, a conman". He said he had the mentality of a "mob boss". Various US news outlets have published quotes from the book, which comes out on Tuesday.

In November 2018, Cohen entered a second guilty plea for lying to a Senate committee about efforts to build a Trump Tower in Moscow. On December 12, 2018, he was sentenced to three years in federal prison and ordered to pay a $50,000 fine after pleading guilty to tax evasion and campaign-finance violations.

Cohen must surrender for prison March 6. He was ordered to pay $1.4 million in restitution for his unpaid taxes and $100,000 in fines. Manhattan U.S. District Court Judge William Pauley walked through each of the counts against Cohen, saying, "Each of these crimes is a serious offense against the United States.".
Mueller's team called Cohen's assistance "useful.". The team cited information he provided about his contacts with Russian interests during the presidential campaign, as well as his contacts with people connected with the White House in 2017 and 2018.
Cohen said his cooperation with prosecutors against his one time boss was a way of "ensuring that history will not remember me as the villain of this story.". He apologized to his family and the public, who "deserved to know the truth.".

The New York prosecutors said Cohen paid hush money to former Playboy model Karen McDougal and adult film star Stormy Daniels to keep them from publicizing claims they had sexual affairs with Trump, potentially jeopardizing his presidential campaign. Trump denied the women's accounts.
In 2016, Cohen arranged a hush-money payment to adult-film star Stormy Daniels, who claimed to have had an affair with Mr Trump. The payment, which violated campaign funding rules, was among the crimes that led to Cohen's jail term.
