The Appellate Division represents the United States in criminal cases on appeal before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, responds to post-conviction litigation, and keeps the district informed of developments in the law. Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication.
The Criminal Division also collects judgments and restitution on behalf of victims and taxpayers. Through our Civil Division, the District represents the United States in civil lawsuits, enforces agency regulatory authority and uses affirmative civil remedies to recover government money lost to fraud or other misconduct.

Civil Division attorneys may handle cases alone or as a member of a team, depending on the matter at hand.
