In an interview with the Miami Herald back in 2017, Joli compared herself to Trump, noting: "I am not looking to run [for Congress] because I need a paycheck, like Donald Trump. I'm not looking to run because I need fame, like Donald Trump.
Ms. Ellis beat the drum for the president on cable and wherever else she had a platform. She issued statements from the Dobson Policy Institute praising the administration’s “dedication to the rule of law” as Mr. Trump fanned fears about a migrant caravan moving through Mexico.

Craig Silverman, a lawyer in Denver who used to host a radio show on legal matters and current events that Ms. Ellis occasionally appeared on, described her as “an attorney of scant accomplishment.”. The cases she discussed with him, he recalled, were bread-and-butter criminal defense work.
A graduate of the University of Richmond law school, Ms. Ellis did not have the Ivy League, white-shoe credentials that typically impress Mr. Trump. But she did have an attribute that can carry just as much weight in his eyes: the ability to go on television and deliver scathing attacks on his critics.
Jan. 5, 2021. A lawyer advising President Trump in recent weeks has resigned from her law firm after it was revealed that she participated in the call where Mr. Trump pressured Georgia officials to help him reverse the state’s election results, the firm said in a statement on Tuesday.
Pressuring state officials to “find votes.” In a taped call, Mr. Trump urged Georgia’s secretary of state to “find 11,780 votes” to overturn the presidential election and vaguely warned of a “criminal offense.” And he twice tried to talk with a leader of Arizona’s Republican party in a bid to reverse Joseph R. Biden’s narrow victory there.
The lawyer Cleta Mitchell blamed her resignation on “a massive pressure campaign in the last several days mounted by leftist groups.”.
The lawyer, Cleta Mitchell, has been advising Mr. Trump despite a policy at her firm, Foley & Lardner, that none of its lawyers should represent clients involved in relitigating the presidential election.
Ms. Mitchell was among several Trump aides who joined him on the call on Saturday, in which Mr. Trump vaguely threatened Georgia’s secretary of state, Brad Raffensperger, with “a criminal offense” as he pressured him to “find” enough votes to change the state’s presidential results. Ms. Mitchell has represented far-right groups ...
Partisan election reviews. Since leaving office, Mr. Trump and his loyalists have embraced partisan reviews of the 2020 election. In Arizona, a criticized Republican review of the results in the state’s largest county failed to support Mr. Trump’s false claims of fraud. Despite that, the so-called Stop the Steal movement appears to be racing forward as more G.O.P. politicians announce Arizona-style reviews in other states.
The controversial phone call Saturday between President Donald Trump and Georgia election officials brought a new name to light: conservative attorney Cleta Mitchell, who has quietly been aiding President Donald Trump in his push to overturn the election for weeks, according to the New York Times —a notable addition to his campaign legal team because she is a partner at a major law firm, which has stated it is “ concerned” by her participation in the phone call.
According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, this was the first time it was publicly disclosed that Mitchell was involved in Trump's continued efforts to reverse the November election results.
Mitchell, a prominent conservative election lawyer, advised Trump behind the scenes for weeks and was on the 2 January call when Trump pleaded with, and threatened, the Georgia secretary of state to help him “find” 11,780 votes to overturn Biden’s win there. Mitchell ’s law firm, Foley & Lardner, promptly launched an internal review of her role advising Trump and the call. Days later, she resigned from the firm.
Further, Democratic New York state lawmaker Brad Hoylman has filed a complaint with a state appellate court seeking Giuliani’s disbarment over his “complicity” in the Capitol riot and “flagrant” violations of ethical standards of conduct.
Meanwhile Powell, who Trump consulted with a few times at the White House, was hit with a $1.3bn defamation lawsuit by Dominion Voting Systems for making false and reputation-damaging claims of nefarious foreign ties that helped Biden win.
Without offering evidence, Giuliani told Trump’s Save America rally in DC before the Capitol attack that “I’m willing to stake my reputation, the president is willing to stake his reputation, on the fact that we’re going to find criminality there.” And he pointedly said, “Let’s have trial by combat.”.
Two House Democrats wrote last week to the New York State Bar Association requesting an investigation of Giuliani citing his call for “trial by combat”. Noting Giuliani’s role in the “violent uprising”, the bar group has begun an inquiry that could lead to his ouster.
Rudy Giuliani, the president’s personal attorney, could be included in a federal investigation and is facing a disbarment complaint. Rudy Giuliani, personal attorney to Donald Trump, speaks at a rally on 6 January before the march on the Capitol.
Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani, who led Trump’s conspiratorial drive to overturn the election and gave an incendiary talk to the Trump rally right before the march on the Capitol began, could be ensnared in a federal investigation of the attack and is facing a disbarment complaint in New York.
