According to her campaign website, she wants corporations to pay more taxes; strong enforcement of antitrust rules; an "Ultra-Millionaire Tax" on America's richest 75,000 families; and a crackdown on lobbying.
But for many years she was a Republican, until the mid-1990s, when she registered as a Democrat.
The National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center — an organization raising awareness about violence toward Native American women and families, and the charity Warren requested Trump donate $1 million to as part of his bet about her DNA test — came to the senator’s defense this fall.
Hoskin’s statement also said Warren’s DNA test “makes a mockery out of DNA tests and its legitimate uses.”

Her ancestors don’t appear on the Dawes Rolls, an official list of members of the Cherokee, Choctaw, Creek, Chickasaw, and Seminole tribes put together in the early 20th century. Having a direct ancestor on the rolls is a requirement for enrollment in the Cherokee Nation.

In her paper, however, Warren argued that utility companies were over-regulated and that automatic utility rate increases should be institutionalized to avoid “regulatory lag, ” in spite of consumer advocate concerns. “Eliminating regulatory lag will end the need for frequent rate hearings, and will, thus, reduce the administrative costs of regulation,” she wrote. On the other side of the debate were consumer advocates, whose arguments she described then as “fallacious” and based on “unscrutinized, long-accepted conventional wisdom.”

In 1994, on a lark, Virgil Cooper decided to run in the Democratic primary against an Oklahoma congressional incumbent, Representative Mike Synar. Cooper raised almost no money and said his political idol was Republican President Dwight Eisenhower. But Synar had become a top target for the National Rifle Association, which poured money into the primary. Cooper won. While he lost the general election to Tom Coburn, Synar’s ouster was an unlikely first domino to fall in the launch of Warren’s political career and helped to transform her from a policy-focused moderate Republican to one of the most potent forces in the Democratic Party.
There is only one reason a person would fraudulently make a claim to be from a racial or ethnic group not his or her own: to benefit from affirmative action or other preferential programs created for underrepresented groups that have been victims of past discrimination.
The affirmative action programs designed to help close these gaps and help Native Americans climb the economic ladder are targeted specifically at Native Americans to help them overcome centuries of discrimination and dispersal from their tribal lands. The programs are not designed to help people falsely posing as American Indians.
Warren even provided recipes for a 1984 cookbook titled “Pow Wow Chow: A Collection of Recipes from Families of the Five Civilized Tribes: Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek and Seminole, ” listing herself as a Cherokee. The Daily Mail reported in that three of those recipes were plagiarized from a French chef.
Warren has apologized for her fraud, claiming that she was relying on family stories she heard as a girl that said her family was Native American.
Few things are more despicable than holding yourself out to be something you know you are not. This is true for someone who never served in the military pretending to be a war hero, a college dropout posing as someone with a doctoral degree, or a white woman pretending to be a Native American.
Only 10 percent of Native Americans had four-year college degrees – just about half the rates for whites. And by every other measure, including family income and unemployment rates, Native Americans are worse off than the white population –, particularly on Indian reservations.
The Washington Post published a photo Wednesday showing that in her registration with the State Bar of Texas, Warren filled out a form in her own handwriting that identified her race as “American Indian .”
