Episodes Season 1 (1984–85) This season's opening credits features the Huxtable family playing sports in Central Park.Two versions of the show's theme song are used in this sequence. A long version of the show's theme is heard in the first and another episode, but a shortened version with a few bars taken out and with a different, though similar, style is used for the rest of the season.

Cliff & Clair visit Sondra & Elvin's apartment and are surprised and shocked at the cramped space and state of disrepair. Clair does not want her grandchild to grow up there. Sondra & Elvin agree to borrow money to get a better place.
During the series, she becomes a partner in her law firm. As an attorney she helps her family with legal issues, and she successfully represents her eldest daughter, Sondra, in a case over dishonest car repairs.
Sondra was created when Bill Cosby wanted the show to express the accomplishment of successfully raising a child (e.g.- a college graduate). Whitney Houston was considered for the role of Sondra Huxtable, but did not want to give up her burgeoning music career.
Career. In 1984, Le Beauf auditioned for the role of the eldest Huxtable daughter Sondra on The Cosby Show. 26 years old at the time of her audition, she was initially considered too old to play one of the children, being only 10 years younger than Phylicia Rashad, the actress who played her mother, Clair Huxtable.
