In the Episode (7x07) Someone to Witch Over Me, Leo finally becomes an avatar after Piper and Phoebe are killed and the lead Avatar tells him as an avatar he can save them, which he does with his newfound powers. Leo then joined the Avatars, and was granted even greater powers.
Leo then teamed up with the demon Zankou, who was also out to stop the Avatars in order to reverse Utopia. Leo sacrifices himself by starting a conflict with demons in order to convince the sisters of how the Avatars have taken away their free will, and subsequently their ability to feel grief.
King left Charmed due to major fights with Shannen Doherty. An unknown source admitted that when Ted's character Andy had died, Shannen was overwhelmed by joy. Other fans say that he wanted more scenes, but the producers couldn't come up with more story-lines, which led to his death.

Later, when Cole and the Charmed Ones find out that Cole's old friends in the Brotherhood are planning to take over most of the world's Internet traffic, Cole offers to go undercover. Darryl and Cole at Piper and Leo's wedding. The Charmed Ones and Leo don't like this idea, believing Cole's hold on good is too tenuous.
Cole was hired by the Triad to get close to and kill the Charmed Ones. The Triad promised to give him his father's soul if successful. The Triad and the Source believed that since Cole was half-human, he could get closer to the sisters than a full-blooded demon could.
The Source believed (much to his chagrin) that without Phoebe's love, Cole's soul would die and the Source itself would cease to exist. Rather than renew the previous Source's war against the Charmed Ones, Cole planned to use Phoebe's love for him to turn her evil and permanently shatter the Power of Three.
