Most CCW insurance/non-insurance type providers want to sell you their service. They tell you what they have to offer, how it can help you, and what you risk by not using their service. In fact, this is how most insurance companies work…car insurance, home insurance, flood insurance, etc.
CCW Safe has been around for about seven years now. In those seven years, they’ve received accreditation from the Better Business Bureau, have an A+ rating, and of the whopping three reviews left with the BBB, two of them are 5 stars. The one star is a result of him not getting a renewal reminder.
Permit Plans. Permit plans are intended for individuals who can legally carry a weapon. The Protector plan is intended for active or retired military as well as law enforcement officers. The Defender plan is for those holding a valid state concealed carry permit.
CCW Safe Insurance. Again, CCW Safe is not an insurance company, but they are a legal defense service. They offer defense services for military and law enforcement, as well as those who have a legitimate concealed carry permit.
However, they do have caps on criminal defense funds. You’ll also have to pay 20% up-front, whereas CCW Safe doesn’t require any out of pocket expenses. Keep an eye out for our full review on NRA Carry Guard. Update: NRA Carry Guard is no longer a CCW insurance.
However, there’s a cap on how much they’ll pay. CCW Safe will also cover appeals and criminal record expungement, however, US Second Call Defense does not. Keep an eye out for our full review on US Second Call Defense.
CCW Safe pays all up-front cost of a criminal defense, meaning you won’t get a bill in the mail. There’s no limit to the amount paid for criminal defense. Spouse and children under 18 are included in the Home Coverage plan. All legal weapons are covered and in all 50 states.

CCW Safe provides $350/day work loss compensation , up to 40 sessions (up to $6,000) for a licensed psychological counselor, and $3,000 in home crime-scene cleanup. USCCA used to provide these benefits but has since discontinued them.
The cost of both these services is almost the same, give or take a cup of coffee. The USCCA Elite membership costs $497 per year , whereas CCW Safe’s Ultimate Plan costs $499 per year upfront.
Where USCCA has a maximum coverage of $2.2 million in the elite program , CCW Safe provides unlimited coverage for both civil and criminal defense attorney fees. This is a huge consideration.
USCCA provides a maximum bail bond coverage of $50,000 compared to a maximum of $100,000 offered by CCW Safe. The civil damage expenses in USCCA are shared with the defense limit, whereas CCW Safe provides $1 million in civil damages in the ultimate plan.
There’s also a cheaper alternative to this known as the ‘protector plan’ for active/retired law enforcement officers with a CCW permit. It has $500,000 in bail coverage, and other add-ons for civil damage compensation, bail coverage upgrade, and spouse coverage.
The Defender Plan has been designed for people with a valid concealed carry permit, against any legal action resulting from a self-defense incident. The member must have a valid resident or non-resident concealed carry permit (FOID cards not eligible) and can use any legal weapon in any legal-possession premises, to be covered. It also covers your spouse and children (under age 18) at home. Unless they are prohibited from using firearms.

CCW Safe members are covered for any legitimate self defense use of force, whether that is by defending yourself with a firearm, or other weapons, or bare hands. A legitimate self defense incident means that you had no other options but to use force, and that you did not provoke an attack.
In 18 USC § 926B (c), "qualified law enforcement officer" is defined as any individual employed by a governmental agency, who:
There are three types of legal actions that can result from a self defense incident. Administrative, Civil or Criminal. First, the most common type of legal action taken against a concealed carrier stemming from a self defense matter is a criminal action. For these types of legal matters, a judgment means you have been convicted of a criminal offense. This can mean jail or prison time, monetary fines or probation. CCW Safe pays all the legal expenses associated with a criminal defense including lawyers fees, expert witnesses, investigators and other litigation expenses like bond fee, trial support consultants, jury consultants, jury social media investigators, etc. Any fines associated with a criminal conviction have to be borne by the member. The criminal legal standard is beyond a reasonable doubt. This is a very high legal standard.
Church's are required and responsible to cover the actions of those hired or act as their "Agents." If you are acting as an agent for the church, paid or volunteer, then the church would be responsible for covering an incident on their property. When you are an individual or part of a group that is considered the people to alert or one of the church members to approach to handle suspicious people or handle threats you become part of "Security" even if there is no official title for that position but you take on the responsibility. This is not to discourage what you are doing. It’s a great thing! The church just needs to pay for the aftermath and legal consequences of the defensive shooting. If this is not worked out by the church and individual/group that takes on this responsibility you will be left to foot the bill.
EXTREME RISK PROTECTION ORDER COVERAGE (“Red Flag Law” Coverage): The "Ultimate Plan" is the ONLY membership subscription that covers up to $10,000 for hearings for legally issued Extreme Risk Protection Order that does not follow a Recognized Self-defense Use of Force Incident.
Many civil defense plans have limited amounts on the legal fees and expenses. CCW Safe does not. Some plans that do provide civil liability protection reduce the amount of coverage by what is spent in the legal defense. For CCW Safe, the costs are always separate from the civil liability protection.
Although, CCW Safe is not an insurance company, and did not (like our competitors) partner with traditional insurance companies to sell insurance policies; we are not going to sell plans to permit holders or gun owners in that state any longer.
