Later however when lashing at Walt for manipulating him to leave town Jesse brings up that he will kill him the same way he killed Mike if he disobeys, showing that he did not fall for Walt's previous lie ("Confessions"). Mike is mentioned for a final time by Saul whilst he and Walt are hiding in Ed Galbraith 's basement.
Following his son's death, Mike fell into a depression and became an alcoholic. He officially retired from the police force before ambushing and killing the men who orchestrated Matt's murder. Mike then moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to be closer to Stacey and Kaylee, the only family he had left.
Although Mike doesn't seem to feel even a bit conflicted about the crimes he commits, he also isn't terribly interested in gratuitous cruelty or shooting his way to the top of the meth lord food chain - he just does what's necessary to keep himself and his boss safe, with a minimum of ego-tripping and drama.
Now heading into its sixth season, Better Call Saul documents the early days of Mike's partnership with Saul as well as his journey in becoming Gus Fring's (Giancarlo Esposito) second-in-command. From the moment Mike debuted on Breaking Bad, it was made clear that Banks' character was a hardened man who wasn't afraid to get his hands dirty.
“Say My Name” is the 53rd episode of AMC's Breaking Bad series & it showed fictional lawyer Dan Wachsberger hiding illicit drug monies in at least nine safety deposit boxes for his clients. After DEA Special Agents catch Wachsberger hiding monies, he became an informant for the DEA & was held in prison.
In Breaking Bad, season 5, Mike's nine guys' lawyer Dan Waxberg is caught red handed by the DEA while transferring Mike's cash to his nine men's safe deposits. Right after that, we learn from a conversation between Steve Gomez and Hank Schrader, overheard by Walt, that the lawyer ratted on Mike.
Trivia. The initial title for this episode was "Everybody Wins", referring to the last line spoken at the end of the previous episode. The title of this episode refers to Walter's demand for Declan to call him Heisenberg during their confrontation by urging him to "say my name".
At the Houston Madrigal warehouse, Jesse arrives to retrieve a barrel of methylamine from a hesitant Lydia. While lowering the barrel, Lydia finds a GPS device attached to the bottom of it.
Then Jesse Pinkman tried to give Kaylee half of his $5 mil buyout, but Saul wouldn't arrange it.
Jesse didn't knew if Walt killed Mike or not, but he had suspicious because of one reason: Mike was totally against the idea of killing his guys in prison, after Mike's "depart", Walt killed them anyway.
To recap, Walter died of a gunshot wound in the series finale. In an attempt to get revenge on Uncle Jack and his crew, he hooked up a machine gun to his car that went off when he hit a button on his key. The gun killed nearly everyone but struck Walter in the process.
Because moments before, Hank (Dean Norris) arrived on the scene, having tailed the kid himself, and he manages to talk Jesse down and encourage him to cooperate, so they can both bring down Walt together. How? By Jesse turning snitch.
Is Breaking Bad Based on the Real-Life Walter White? Despite popular belief, Breaking Bad didn't take any inspiration from real-life stories of drug dealers. Rather, creator Vince Gillian first conceptualized the idea after working on The X-Files.
For instance, in season 1 the street price for a stolen barrel of methylamine is given as $10,000. Assuming a standard 55-gallon drum, this works out to $182 per gallon.
Their carrying the barrel rather than rolling it is to highlight their naïveté at this. It shows they have never done this before and have no idea if the logistics involved. There is a callback to this in a later episode where they are mocked for it.
At the warehouse, Lydia leads Jesse Pinkman to a barrel of methylamine. They find a GPS tracker on the bottom of a barrel of methylamine, compromising it. Mike is skeptical that the tracker was planted by the DEA because of its crude placement on the bottom of the barrel.
But he goes on nonetheless because he knows his strengths as well as his weaknesses. "
Mike: " I've known good criminals and bad cops. Bad priests. Honorable thieves. You can be on one side of the law or the other. But if you make a deal with somebody, you keep your word. You can go home today with your money and never do this again. But you took something that wasn't yours. And you sold it for a profit.
Mike shows up and kills all four gunmen, then shoots Chow in the hand for not keeping Gus in the loop. Mike and Gus examine the gunmen's passports, and conclude that the cartel are probing for weaknesses in Gus's operation. After the next cook, Mike is suddenly told that he and Victor must kill Walt.
Mike's first paycheck from Madrigal arrives, and it is over $10,000. After obtaining the address for the company's Las Cruces facility, Mike breaks in after stealing Barry Hedberg 's identification.
Daniel lets his initial success go to his head and buys a bright yellow Hummer H2. Mike, knowing full well that Daniel's carelessness will eventually attract police attention, declines to go to a meeting in the Hummer and walks off when he refuses to travel in Mike's 1988 Chrysler instead. Daniel goes on to deal with Nacho alone. While Daniel is distracted, Nacho secretly learns of his home address from the car registration in the Hummer's glove compartment. A few days later, Daniel's house is burglarized by Nacho. He calls the police, upset that his valuable baseball card collection has been stolen. The responding officers are immediately suspicious of Daniel's Hummer. Investigating further, they find a hidden compartment in the wall behind Daniel's couch, apparently found and emptied by Nacho.
Mike finds himself having to intervene when the police invite Daniel to the station for questioning. Upon learning about the circumstances, Mike cautions Daniel about talking, knowing full well the police suspect Daniel is engaged in illicit activities. Daniel, however, is adamant about getting his baseball cards back.
Upon being informed of Gus's death, Mike angrily leaves the facility to return to New Mexico, intent on killing Walt in retribution. However, Walt and Jesse manage to convince Mike stand down as he is also implicated in Gus's meth making operation via the video evidence from the superlab.
He was caught in the act at the bank's vault by Steven Gomez and two other plainclothes agents, and was arrested. Now in custody, Dan complied with the DEA and betrayed Mike, pretending to call him with an issue regarding the deposits in an attempt to reveal Mike's location.
Dan was making scheduled drops to the henchmen's nine safety deposit boxes at a bank in Albuquerque. One day, in addition, he made a larger deposit for Kaylee Ehrmantraut. After the DEA dropped the search against Mike, they instead turned their attention to Dan on orders from ASAC Hank Schrader.
In July 2009, after Gus' Drug Empire crumbled and the DEA seized all of the associates' funds from the Cayman islands, Mike Ehrmantraut (who was masquerading as Dan's paralegal) and Dan visited all nine henchmen in prison. Their first visit was to Dennis Markowski, the former manager of the LavanderĂa Brillante where Gus' superlab was hidden. As Dan sat listening to music through his headphones, Mike assured Dennis that he and the other men in jail would receive their pay.
It was revealed that Mike was a Vietnam War veteran who served as a sniper in the Marine Corps. This would also explain Mike's hardened demeanor which was common with those who experienced the trauma of Vietnam. It was also implied that Mike had special ops training, especially with his innate understanding of surveillance and tracking people.
Matt was also pressured into becoming a crooked cop, but before he agreed, he asked Mike for advice. Mike was worried that if he refused to take the bribes, then the other corrupt cops would consider Matt a liability. Matt took the offer but his partners were worried about his hesitation.
He was sent by Saul to clean up Jane's death after Walt let the woman overdose. Mike also spied on Skyler when she and Walt were going through a divorce. Mike was a thorn in Walt's side since the pair met, even after the meth chemist aligned with Gus.
Mike refused to accept payment since he had something else in mind. Mike continued working with Jimmy on various missions but much of his focus turned to Gus' operations. As a way to launder the money that Mike previously stole, Gus had Madrigal Electromotive hire Mike as a security consultant.
Mike repaid Jimmy by offering his services for odd jobs. He was also hired as a bodyguard for a drug-dealer who was connected to Nacho Varga. Mike's work for the drug dealer caught the attention of Nacho, who wanted help killing Tuco Salamanca, the nephew of the drug kingpin, Hector Salamanca.
He served as a mentor to Jesse after the young man saved him from an ambush. After Walt killed Gus, Mike wanted instant revenge. He later changed his mind and reluctantly joined Walt and Jesse's new meth lab operation. Lydia then got involved to assist in the organization but she only made matters more dangerous.
Mike then moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to be closer to Stacey and Kaylee, the only family he had left. In Better Call Saul season 1, Mike worked as the parking lot attendant at the courthouse, which was where he often encountered Saul, who still went by Jimmy McGill at the time.
The episode starts with Herr Schuler, a top executive of the German food conglomerate Madrigal Elektromotoren — parent company of Los Pollos Hermanos — killing himself with heart paddles rather than face police interrogation over Madrigal’s involvement with Gus’s drug trade. By the end of the episode, we’ve learned that the scenario Gus put in place to ensure the loyalty of his workers (i.e., buying silence with money) is crumbling. All the Madrigal-related plot twists in this episode are about money, and the fear of losing it.
In season four, Walt gave Jesse a cigarette containing a ricin capsule. Jesse was supposed to use the ricin to poison Gus Fring. Jesse did not go through with the act, and in fact found himself buckling under pressure from Mike and Gus, who were setting him up as a potential replacement for Walt. Walt came up with a diabolical “emergency” solution to get Jesse back on his side and make him mad enough to want to kill Gus: He conspired with Saul to surreptitiously steal the cigarette pack that contained the ricin and replace it with an identical pack with no ricin cigarette. Then Walt poisoned Jesse’s girlfriend’s son with a Lily of the Valley plant in his backyard.
Written by series creator Vince Gilligan and directed by Michelle MacLaren, “Madrigal” is a housekeeping episode, mainly concerned with setting up future events and clarifying old ones. While it checks in with Walt, Skyler, Jesse, and Saul, its spotlight is on a glorified supporting player, Jonathan Banks’s security guy–hit man, Mike. But I’d still put it on a list of Breaking Bad ’s best episodes, because it’s perfect, and because it underlines the show’s distinguishing characteristic: a commitment to clarity.
In Breaking Bad season 5, she hired a man named Chris Mara (Christopher King ) to assassinate anyone who had dangerous intel. Mara previously worked for Gus under Mike following the events of Better Call Saul, so he was familiar with those previously involved. He successfully killed Chow before luring Mike with the same intention. By outsmarting Mara, Mike learned the truth regarding Lydia's orders before killing his former ally.
Following the failed hijacking of the Los Pollos Hermanos truck, the cartel sent the right-hand-man of the leader of the cartel to negotiate with Gus. Gaff (Maurice Compte), the man doing the negotiating, eventually convinced Gus and his team to cook signature blue meth in Mexico. While there, Gus poisoned the top members of the Juárez Cartel. When Gaff realized what was happening, Mike snuck up behind the henchman and strangled him.
In the Better Call Saul season 5 episode titled "Bagman," the Salamanca family acquired money for Lalo's bail from a cartel site in Mexico. To safely deliver it, they hire Jimmy McGill (aka Saul Goodman) to transport bags of cash from a remote location. During the return trip, Jimmy was ambushed by a convoy of Colombian gang members. The leader, Jefe (Gabriel Rodriguez), ordered his men to steal the money and to kill Jimmy. Before one of the gang members pulled the trigger, he was shot by a sniper. Caught in the middle of a gunfight, Jimmy was soon saved by Mike. One of the mercenaries escaped, but after becoming trapped in the desert overnight, Mike caught sight of the lone survivor. With his sniper rifle, Mike shot the man named TiburĂłn (Corey Eubanks) while Jimmy lured him to their location.
Werner Ziegler (Rainer Bock) was the German engineer hired by Gus Fring to oversee the construction of the superlab in Better Call Saul season 4. The man had trouble keeping the details of the lab a secret, which he was warned about multiple times. After sneaking out of his living quarters, Werner inadvertently revealed intel on the lab's construction to Lalo Salamanca (Tony Dalton). With the crime family serving as one of Gus' biggest enemies, Gus had no choice but to punish Werner. Mike fought for the engineer to have a chance to return to work, but Gus had his mind made up. Knowing his fate, Werner asked for one final walk outside to look at the stars. While he did so, Mike shot him in the head, falling into a depressive state after the event.
Dean Norris as Hank Schrader. AMC/Breaking Bad screencap/Netflix. Hank Schrader was Walt's brother-in-law and a committed DEA agent. He often hung out with Walt and his family, Skyler (Anna Gunn) and Walt Jr. (RJ Mitte), alongside his wife, Marie (Betsy Brandt).
Many of the deaths on "Breaking Bad" were very intense. On AMC's "Breaking Bad," shocking deaths are a byproduct of heading a criminal enterprise. The deaths of murderous characters, like Jack Welker and Tuco Salamanca, came as a relief to some.
A meth cook and former exterminator, Todd helped his uncle operate their violent gang and later became Walt's assistant when Jesse tried to quit the business. Time of Death: Season five, episode 16 ("Felina") Cause of Death: Jesse strangled Todd to death with the chain of his own handcuffs as he escaped capture.
Raymond Cruz as Tuco Salamanca. AMC. Tuco (Raymond Cruz ) was a chaotic drug kingpin who briefly acted as Jesse and Pinkman's meth distributor. He was the nephew of Hector Salamanca (Mark Margolis), the leader of the notorious Juárez Cartel.
Jack Welker. Michael Bowen as Jack Welker. AMC. A drug associate of Walt, Jack Welker (Michael Bowen) was the leader of a group with neo-Nazi ideologies and, at Walt's request, he was directly responsible for the deaths of 10 prison inmates.
After Tuco killed Gonzo's partner and friend No-Doze (Cesar Garcia), Gonzo was tasked with getting rid of the evidence. Time of Death: Season two, episode one ("Seven Thirty-Seven") Cause of Death: While attempting to move No-Doze's body in a junkyard, his arm was crushed by shifting debris and he bled to death.
Alongside Skinny Pete and Badger (Matt Jones), Combo (Rodney Rush) doubled as one of Jesse's longtime friends and low-level distributors. Time of Death: Season two, episode 11 ("Mandala") Cause of Death: After selling meth on the wrong corner, Combo was shot by Tomás Cantillo on orders from rival dealers.
